Birds In Small Cages ?

Recommended Posts

I don't mind mules cages and having birds in them but not for long periods of time I like to see them in the flight as we'll but there was people on this bird forum trying to justify keeping them in cages for long periods of time just for the sake of them singing better

the whole point of the small cage is to settle the bird down for showing because when u show birds they have to be composed on the perch which you will be judged on i dont show birds but i keep my mules in a small cage by day hung out singing and then back to the breeders in the evening also when in the small cage they sing there heads off which i would say is a sign of happiness

I gave my view, on that forum, under this name. I think we could pretty much say I'm siding with Spartan, on this one.

Nice to see, and hear, on a blue sky day. But, FFS, let it out again.

In my mind; It should be a showing out affair. Something for high days and holidays. " See my bird in its tiny but, beautifully and skilfully crafted display cage. Hear him sing! ~ Just know that he'll be flying around again before this week end's out) "

Ah, there we go, look. Russ has the idea

I love to see the birds singing in the cages and I know that's what there for and that's what I'll do if I show them I just don't like the fact that people thinks it alright to put them in there all the time and in some cases complete darkness apart from a couple of hours a day I mean what the point in having birds if your not even gunna be able to see them

I agree with the size thing, I keep a mule and a canary in a big flight cage but am after a decent mule cage of a decent size, all the ones I've seen are tiny!! Any body no where I can get a decent size one, doesn't have to be big but a decent sizze, thanks

Ive only been into song birds for a short time but since having listened to birds in an aviary ive given my mule cages away........it might be my immagination i dont know but the sound of a fit lean healthy bird singing because it wants to......is a better sound than a bird singing because it has nothing else to do.........in my mind ive likened it to the way a dog will go through the motions running a treadmill compared to a dog outside really opening out his lungs......both are running but natural just seems to create far more energy and vigour........like i say though it might just be my immagination :D

Good comparison that Gnasher with the treadmill bit and i also think it's ok for a bit but not all the time and that's why i find it hard to home my mules as i'm not for them going to a place where there'll never fly and that's also why i'm stopping breeding any more mules myself. The darkness bit spartan is on about is in roller canary shows it's for the song and some folk will keep the birds in darkness apart from a hour or so to feed and pratice singing for a few weeks up to a show so they don't get distracted from singing when required to.I think there a bunch of cnuts myself and who the feck thinks keeping any animal like that is ok let alone for a red rossett?.

I always thought dog shows were repulsive but bird shows :icon_eek: .........certainly not for me..... its natural to want good specimens whatever animal you own but not to the cost of the birds happiness......i just enjoy them for what they are.
