Rutting Buck At Last Light

Recommended Posts

hi all had a good run on the deer since my last topic so thought i would write about a stalk i had last sunday week, got to my permission around 5.45 so only had just over a hour of light left but planned just to watch a couple of fields till dark. as soon as i stepped out the van i could hear 2 bucks grunting some way off in the forest so i decided to try and get in on one, i started to stalk through the forest thinking thy were closer than what they were. every time they would grunt i was trying to make good ground as time was against me, i kept going as i was only 20 yard in the forest and could see the fields on the edge, the further i got i started thinking this was a bad idea as i was at least a km from my van then but i was getting closer to one all the time so i kept going around another 400 yrds i was so close then he went quiet i thought he had winded me, i waited round 5 mins with no noise and decided to turn back, about a minute later he started again not 80 yrds from me i stalked towards him and spotted his antlers in a rushy field 30 yrds out of the forest, i moved into a better position for a shot and he dissapeared into the rushes grunting, i new he wasnt far so i put the gun on sticks and waited. next thing 2 does came out of the rushes to a clear spot 30 yrds away, i waited watchin them for a couple of minutes then i spotted the antlers comeing towards them, as soon as he came out of the rushes i was on him and shot him just below the head at around 30 yrds, he dropped on the spot. nows where the real work began as it was 5 mins off dark and i had a km and a half drag on my own but i was buzzing after the stalk. 2 hours and 10 mins later i had him at the van just after 9 pm wrecked. put a few other pics up as well of some deer ive shot in the last few weeks. happy hunting guys. post-48323-0-88687500-1383252366_thumb.jpgpost-48323-0-45314100-1383253426.jpgpost-48323-0-76571900-1383253495.jpgpost-48323-0-00203800-1383253526.jpgpost-48323-0-27704600-1383253614.jpgpost-48323-0-11779400-1383253762.jpg
