Pockets of workers all over the UK ..Most are too hard to be honest..Thats the only fault I find .Getting the right mix is the hardest part

If people worked them as much as they talked about them on here then there would be some decent one's around.....!

There more than capable of doing anything you want them to. It's true that some can be soft but that's more down to the breeding. A lot of people don't have the patience to use them for earth work a

The borders are not bad but as stated in a earlier post they are late starters but once they get going they are as good as any terrier,i advise you if you want to go for a bushing terrier stick to a bushing terrier, dont try and get one that works cover and will go to ground as while your out bushing your dogs will go to ground on the first earth he comes to and it always happens when you have no collar on him,i had a border one that was nearly 3 years old before it started but a demon when it did ,

Some maybe late starters, but not all of them.We had a couple of borders of lads from the south of ireland some years back and they both self entered before 12 months old.I personally think its like any other terrier,i have seen some black dogs not enter until 2 year old and maybe with some not enter at all.I also think and this is jmo that it is an important factor in which the way the pup or pups are brought up to adulthood, locked away in a pen until there 14 months old wont do them any good, they need to be out in the field taking in all that is around them from an early age,i think they progress much quicker then and are aware of cattle and other livestock and wont either run after them or run a mile away from them, jmo.
