Chris seconds your motion. You had me at vast difference! ;)

You clearly don't have an argument here, Alimac. You just seem to think that they should get a free pass because their daughter was snatched when it was totally preventable. The circumstances are fishy at best but without going into all the hearsay and presspeak about the case, they left their children unattended to go and party and no amount of name calling and headbanging emoticons is going to change that. This isn't brain death this years of cynicism looking at something that was f*****g wrong from the outset.

You're trying to compare taking your eyes of your child, for a few seconds, with leaving them in a hotel complex while you go partying, checking up on them when you can be arsed.

These are two completely different things. One is forgiveable. One f*****g hell isn't.

I was the 'balls for brains' that said losing their daughter wasn't punishment enough. I even went as far as comparing it to Ellie Lawrenson which you neglected to comment on. Both cases preventable. Both cases show parental neglect that warrants legal retribution. You just cannot leave your kids alone and get away with it. It's not acceptable.

You may not condone what they did but it amazes me that you can sit there and say it should be left at that... Would you leave your kids unattended while you go out partying with your wife/girlfriend?

Would you expect charity if you did and the worst happened?

i just cant help myself.......... lol

chris in one post you say you NEVER NEVER NEVER take your eyes off your kids / leave them un attended.... in the next your agreeing with compo that you have lost kids in supermarkets etc.... make your mind up man....... think what you like but only the most heanus of crimes deserves the punishment similar to that the parents are going through at the moment.......but if you think the punishment of losing there child is deserved payment for there mistake/ crime then thats up to you, but you must have strange morals if you do

thats IF it wasnt them..

chris is losing your child not the worst punishment that could be delt out to a parent??? you seam to think locking them up will punish them more

LOSING YOUR CHILD IS THE WORST IMAGINABLE BY OUR STANDARDS, BUT THESE PEOPLE LEFT THERE KIDS TO GO OUT, THATS NOT MY STANDARDS, THEY ARE VERY VERY SELFISH AND SELF-CENTRED AT THE BEST, THEY INVITED THIS AND COULD HAVE PREVENTED IT HAPPENING (THATS ASSUMING THEY DIDN'T KILL HER THEMSELVES AS I AM BEING LED TO BELIEVE) they deserve punishment for neglect

Again a world apart from a kid getting away from you and leaving them whilst you go out on the piss with your mates

Add to that the fact that it wasn't even the parents who went to check on them every time.

I hadn't realised they had done this for the whole holiday

Why bother taking the kids at all? Leave them with family if you don't want them hindering your evenings.

Portugal is a very child friendly, family orientated place, they welcome children in most restaurants; why not take them with them?

If they were too young & it was too late DONT GO OUT. EAt/DRINK IN YOUR APARTMENT

surely this thread should be about the sad fact that we live in a society that we cant leave our kid under the fear this or similar may happen, ........

Alimac, are you a parent or not?

either way you seem to me to be an inteligent adult human being, someone who knows the ways of this world. of course you know and have seen how grotty the world is at times. you must do or you wouldnt have posted the above comment.

with this in mind i have to ask a simple question.

As a worldly pair of adults would the Mcanns not have known how the modern world is?, would they or should they have not been more on their gaurd in a country so far removed from our own?

We went to Bulgaria just after all this kicked off and I tell ya, we've never been so on our guard before, well not that we'd noticed, but then I got to thinking, we're like that all the time.

With this in mind, what the feck were they playing at!!! What were they called initially......"professional people" , that term makes me want to throw up at the best of times.

They've got national insurance numbers just like every one else, they're just a pair of irresponsible twats who have fecked up big time and for that reason alone they should stand up and be counted.

If this happened here in the UK, Social Services would have taken the other children off them.........end of.

my answer would be yes they should of been, to the best of my knowledge i have not said anything to the contery(sp) all im trying to get across is if they are not responsable for what happened themselves,i think losing there child is more of a punishment to them than any court could dish out for there lack of parental abbility..

point i was trying to make (this is all based on the assumption that the child was abducted and not infanticide by the parents) is that if they wanted to leave the kids and go out with their mates, and they put themselves and their social life infront of caring for the kids, then losing the little one will not have been that much of a loss to them

Different people have different social values and there are lots of kids wandering round the streets because their parents are inept/uncaring/socially retarded etc....now the ones that get social services/police involvement are the kids belonging to such parents on council estates....

The richer classes (doctors etc..) can usually afford to have a nanny who brings up the kids, and if they dont have a nanny their gardens are that big and the house removed from others that people dont see the neglect....

There are lots of people who have kids who i wouldn't trust to feed the dogs, there are lots of people who dont love or care for their kids, there are a lot of "professional" women who resent their kids for the impact it has had upon their life/career...........

My own opinion (just that my opinion) is that the Mccann's are uncaring socially inept parents, possibly the mother recalls before the kids tied her down and still wants to have the life she led previously? perhaps the father wont make any changes to his previous life and this is causing tension in the house??

Either way i dont believe they are the "caring" parents that the media and the un-imaginative have labelled them, so the only way to punish self centered people is by affecting them, they have lost a child but that wont strike home as much as incarcerating them personally , as if i am right and they are self centred/missing life before kids that is the ONLY way they will realise they have done wrong if it affects them directly!!

This is all conjecture and my opinion, either way this entire thread looks to be irrelevant as it looks likely that they killed the kid!?

Not been online as after my last post i took my two kids swimming and have just got back
