And the cab could break down, you could get a puncture, etc etc. aren't most trades nowadays reliant on tools that can fail?

That's part and parcel of the job and why black cabs are required to be serviced every couple of months and I may be wrong but I think 2 annual inspections a year(mot) but replacing your brain with a sat nav is different especially in one city.

I use a sat nav in the truck but if you saw the amour of uk and European maps I used to carry it was mad.

So for the original question knowledge or sat nav,I'm still saying knowledge.

 

Totally agree.........if i got in a black cab and he started poking about on a satnav id get straight out............theres 20,000 odd monuments/landmarks in London is his satnav going to know all of them ?..........Once his light go,s out and his meters running your paying for the drivers knowledge of getting you from a to b as quickly as possible......your not paying for his hi tech equipment,his new tyres or servicing he,s self employed thats all down to him.............your paying for his knowledge thats all.

Think your best looking for cheap items to sell to make a profit on, you have the people come to you or you can post so you can make a few ££££ on postage ect

If its a tour of London your after gnasher, I'm sure they have buses for that sort of thing. When I get in a taxi, I don't start quizzing the guys knowledge of the area.

And thats why theres the Knowledge !!..........heres a scenario.......a young couple hail down a black cab,they say...... " take us to that theatre where We Will Rock You is showing please.....on the way we need to stop at a cashpoint and we,re a bit hungry stop by a Mcdonalds as well "................on the way they change there mind and say " i tell you what skip the theatre we fancy a bunk up take us to the nearest cheap hotel please ".......what use is a satnav ? its not going to help in any of those things !........

 

Its not a mini cab service its the London Knowledge drivers will be asked a thousand questions a day.........they look at traffic and change their minds on a route at the drop of a hat......a 20 pound fair would turn into 50 pound if you had to wait for them to mess about with a satnav every 2 minutes.

Satnavs don't work very well in London, if you don't have a decent working knowledge of the town you would be f****d 50% of the time
