Self Employed Courier Driver?

Recommended Posts

westy the hours might be clocked onthe tacho but you can still ple the hours in 15 hour shifts and even on the 11 stints youve got the stupid POA, but with 56 actual driving hours you can go along way in that time i once drove for 5 days across russia without crossing a phyical border thats when you know your in a big conntry in this little island its 2 days driving tops years ago we used to load washing machines in thurso [top of scotland] and deliver them in plymouth a day later madness

I was trying to keep it simple :)

WTD,drivers hours,POA,drivers cpc blah blah blah has killed the job along with all the fines etc but the worst thing I have in my cab is tracker and the poxy mobile!!!!!!

Russia I bet that was a fun trip.......not!!!

Who were you pulling for?

Thats the thing nowdays why the need for the knowledge when we have sat navs ?

Yes a medical

Yes a Enhanced CRB Check

Yes speak acceptable English

Yes pass a Cab driving Test

But is there a need for the knowledge ?

What if sat nav breaks or worse cig lighter melts and can't charge it?

If the waiting room was rammed to take the knowledge think how many more cab drivers they'd be if it wasn't there,I this day and age I doubt it's strictly needed but holds off a wave of new cabbies.

If sat nav breaks mate you go buy another
Having had this happen at night when everything's shut whilst working it ain't always that simple and if your a cabbie how crap does that look.

And the cab could break down, you could get a puncture, etc etc. aren't most trades nowadays reliant on tools that can fail?

That's part and parcel of the job and why black cabs are required to be serviced every couple of months and I may be wrong but I think 2 annual inspections a year(mot) but replacing your brain with a sat nav is different especially in one city.

I use a sat nav in the truck but if you saw the amour of uk and European maps I used to carry it was mad.

So for the original question knowledge or sat nav,I'm still saying knowledge.

I'd rather my taxi driver knew where he was going to but I don't mind guiding them, it isn't that big a deal. If I didn't know the route and they used satnav, so be it. But I agree, knowledge would be better but I'd rather have a good driver than someone who knows all the streets tbh.

the worst thing they ever done to trucks was limit them to 56mph then you get the supermarket boys at 50--52 beggers belief how they stay awake and even worse is the 5 ton vans and 7.5 tonner s limits to 56 accidents waiting to happen it was far better back in the olden days 75-80 mph drive all day and all night proper lorry drivers then no twatnav s you knew your way around and proper trucks with gearboxs in them , we used to leave truro sunday loaded to the gunels tip edinburgh or glasgow markets reload and home for tea monday cant do that now

I used to pull for Davis turner out of avonmouth what a shower they they were!!!!

I've done some silly things to get home in time for kids b'day etc but I used to do a few weeks away going slightly native and trailer swapping a hay bay/windhoff meet all my mates for a weekend of beer then turn straight round sun night to get the train from Freiburg to Milan to get some kip on the worst train in the world!!!!

Honestly I swear the nazis sold it to the Swiss as they felt it was inhuman but ok for truckers lol
