Thanks lads just got in knackered ha ha. Had six but could have had more got a bit of a feel for the nets today still loads to learn but really enjoying it

what oz nets are you using mate ?

 

Nets are not measured by oz It's not 4oz or 6oz the proper name for them is 210/12 =4z or 210/18 = 6z the Z just denotes the way thread was made. You can also have S twist, I am making a net at the moment out of Irish linnen with a reverse Z twist.

The result of our second outing with the nets it was pitch black when I took this photo as we were digging one of the ferrets out after the only kill in of the day at 4pm bless her !

Looks like they are doing well for you are you still using purse nets as well ?

No mate just the long nets a couple of ferrets and a couple of young lurchers.

After the last couple of night been waiting for the weather to drop a bit. Forecast looked good tonight for a couple to be out feeding.

So this afternoon I ran out the home made one to make sure the net was spread evenly and tidy for tonight as it's not tied in.

 

The wind wasnt quite right blowing across and out towards the rabbits but if I started from one corner I would have passed with the net before they winded me hopefully.

It meant laying the net left to right and I struggle doing a half hitch with my left hand. So just to make the wife think I am nuts a ran piece of twine across the front room and practiced a half hitch with my left hand. It paid off and the 2 x 50 yarders went out smoothly and I ended up with nice couple of tender rabbit in the bag

Terry, you have come a long way in a very short space of time. You can see by the way the slack is billowed in the nets that the wind was not right. But with a little thought and some practice you have caught rabbits, when most who blindly rush in would not have. I have said it before and will probably say it again, "long netting after dark is a thinking mans sport."

 

When you can winkle a few rabbits out of a drop when the elements are against you, it shows that you think about each drop and the very importent approach to that drop to make the best of any advantage that is available.

Got a hedge impossible to ferret. Will have to be a longnet but still waiting for that north wind.

Northerly wind are notorious for dying off as it gets dark tonight would be a fair oppertunity as the winds are decreasing and turning WNW enter the field on the eastern side and you will have a chance of picking off a few.
