Kieren 2
Been offered a T reg 2.0 Landrover Freelander xdi For £450 It's got 160k miles on the clock and tax and test until the end of the year. The only problems with it are apparently the VCU unit or something is knackered, and also the anti roll bar bushes need replacing. I've not really got any mechanical knowledge at all so is this going to be an expensive fix? Just seems like a nice cheap 4x4 for shooting if I could get these problems sorted for cheap it would be worth it! Any help much appreciated! Thanks, Kieren.
neil82 1,075
sounds about £300 over the top, any freelander should be viewed with a cautious eye at the best of times, an old freelander with electrical problems should be avoided like a dose of clap
Rake aboot 4,935
The VCU (viscouse coupling unit) is the propshaft. Most freelanders have these removed and are run as two wheel drives because the costs involved in replacing the VCU is massive. I will say this nice and clearly. Landrover Freelanders are the worst 4x4 you could possibly ever buy. They are shite.
Kieren 2
haha that's decided that one then! No good to me just being two wheel drive! The hunt begins for a nice cheap Jimny or Vitara now then. Cheers.
fastrac 1
you can find full props on ebay with vcu on for little money. people take them off to save fuel. the vcu is a great idea but they fail when they don't get used

People don't take them off for fuel efficiency, they remove them because they fail and are a fortune to replace. No way would I buy one secondhand, it`s guaranteed to be fecked. regardless, Freelanders are utter garbage.
solly nahome 4 2
that sounds like a lot for what it is if you have no mechanics knowledge
Chr15j 59
Just to add balance... I owned a freelander td4 and it was very capable off and on road. Find a good well looked after one and it will look after you. Buy a cheapie and it will hurt! To be clear they are not rubbish
