Stags & Bucks Dropping Their Antlers???

Recommended Posts

Am I right in thinking it's around now the males of the species will be dropping their hat racks?

I've got a bit of an idea to make some big candle holders from whole red and/or fallow antlers. Any tips to improve my chances of actually finding some?

Cheers

The big stuff is still rutting yet mate be a while yet before they start to cast

Cheers Dan. We've got some fallow herds within 20 min drive but certainly no reds for at least an hours drive. I guess when the time is right I just need to get out with the dog and cover some ground... Got half an idea to train my terrier to find them, she's a smart little thing like that...

Got an idea to fix two or three 6+ point antlers together in a triangular arangement with epoxy and dowl/threaded bar and then fit a few simple wooden candle holders to them and some old rustic chains to hang from the ceiling like a candle/antler chandelier. Also just a single big antler again with candles as a centre piece for a dinning table.

There still using them at the moment BH & they don't shed till march or april so plenty of time to sort designs ....actually getting hold of enough could be a problem . In all the years stalking I very seldom find any nice ones , deer parks are probably your best chance but even these seem to have plenty of outlets ..

That's exactly what I didn't want to hear, lol. There's a decent deer park near me, not sure about access mind and even then I've gotta beat the park rangers to them. Cheers anyway.

Now we've started shooting my work load changes so life is a lot easier we have a lot of forestry work happening this winter and I've been told to take a heavy toll on the deer so I'm concentrating on that at the moment as always you welcome to come down mate its never a problem.
