Worst Miss Ever!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Ayup lads!

been out for a lovely mooch this morning for about 3-4 hours thoroughly enjoyed it!

lovely day for it, with on and off gusting winds, and the worst miss in the history of ever, but still got a few. the thrill of the hunt eh!! :D

so to begin with I went to my usual tree to check zero, and my mildots at 17 23 28 zero 34 40 50 and 57 yards. well after a couple of shots I was bang on and checked the rest of the ranges. shot a 6 shot group at 40 yards in an almost straight line with 6 pellets all touching right next to eachother !.. indoors it would have been a single hole! that's the wind for ya!!

anyways just as I was about to set off I bagged number 1 for the day.. a carrion crow, big bugger, at only 16 yards standing unsuppeorted.. on 10x mag all I could see was a blurry close up of its head lol.. anyways, took it clean in the eye, as ya do :whistling: the jsb exact 15.89 5.52 dropping it clean out of the tree

number 2 was a lovely woodpigeon, which is in the fridge for later :boogy: , a good standing unsupported shot again, this hw100kt really has amazing balance for these standing shots.. this time at 23 yards, was on a mid height branch in a massive oak tree so I aimed for the neck, thinking the pellet would rise, but it didn't.? maybe not elevated enough, anyway it fell staright down but I could see it was still flapping about a bit so I ran over and necked it

slowly stalking through some nice bushy trees gave me the third opportunity of the day, a small, very small young squirrel, that was no good at posing!! I must have gone straight past it when I heard that stupid weird , wheezy , sucking type noise they make.. for you squirrel bashing veterans you might know what I mean..?

anyway I got a bead on it after it flicked its tail one too many times..

it decided to play with the big boys... .22 pellets and a big german killing machine the hw100kt!! and it got absolutely battered, when the jsb exact smashed its way in and out of the back of its head!! cheeky little fecker, the hunter was being the hunted, for a change, but young mr nutkins learned the hard way that nobody plays games with one shot SKoT!! :gunsmilie:

but then tragedy struck.. I MISSED!! not once, but twice!! that doesn't happen much with me and this hw100kt!! :cray:

first was a magpie, an unsuspecting one at that, at 40 yards I was rested on a lovely wall, steady as a rock.. but as I slipped the trigger the wind gusted and I saw the pellet smack the wall about 3mm away to the left of the maggies head on the other wall that it was stood next to on the ground!! gutted

then the second miss in a row, a squirrel, only about 25 yards sat in the V of a trees trunk.. I debated either a standing shot, or a FT style seated shot, and went for the latter, against my better judgement !! im 99.9% sure that if I had took the standing shot it would have been nutkins number two in the bag, but I took the seated shot, and was pretty steady on aim..

lined up the shot and for some random unknown to me reason as I released the trigger I wiggled the rifle upwards! and then on follow through saw a big creamy collared splatter appear 5-6 mm above the squirrels head where the pellet stripped the bark!!

lets just say it didn't fancy sticking around after its 'warning' shot

.. back to winning ways and I bagged, well not quite bagged, the 4th victim to the hw100 for the day, a magpie.

this time at the very top of a tree I heard it cackling away as I was stalking through some overhanging branches and undergrowth.

standing unsupported again I took the shot, a well placed 27 yarder through a gap in the bushes , aiming at the base of the neck and taking the bnack of the maggies head off in a puff of claret and a few small feathers floating down.

but then as it fell, almost in slow motion it got stuck in a big cradle of leaves half way up the tree. tried to get a pic but my phone doesn't zoom much and couldn't make it out. no bloody way was I climbing a wet tree just to get a pic for you lads lol, sorry haha.

so yeah that pretty much wraps up my few hours mooching,. hope you enjoyed the write up. pics to follow shortly.

One shot SKoT :victory:

I think the wind will be up here soon that's why I went out today. it was still windy and quite blustery at times. trying to shoot in the intervals of the wind was my tactics today, and for most of the shots it was good, apart from that magpie, lucky bastaaard :whistling:

glad you enjoyed the write up, took me about 10 mins to type all that lot up :icon_eek::laugh:

thanks again lads :victory:
