Philluk 181
In the past I have been criticised by some people especially by a certain guy who runs another website for Stalking as I knock on doors of farmers and upsetting him or his mates as one wood was close to his and as he charges people £75 a day to shoot deer in an area that backs on to my wood. (and then lies about it) For those who do not have their own land with this strong wind coming in there will be damage and you can go out and help farmers it could be a good way to a bit of land and here is an example. I shoot a lot of land and when I get one farm I always go and see the next door farmers give a card out introduce myself tell him who you are etc say that even though your not shooting on his land you are happy to inform him when you go on your land. Last year I got a new farm of about 75 acres and shot a few deer on there and the deer have not been around as much, but I went to the far end of the land and the road is the boundary but opposite is a set of large electric gates with a button you press to speak to someone, I tried a couple of times no reply and then one day a lady answered and I said that I shoot deer on the farm next door and can I come and see them so they know who I am and I will let them know when im shooting with a view to control of vermin and deer on their land, I got a no and it hung up. All year I drove past every time i'm in the area in a hope I will see someone come out of the gates and never have. On Thursday I was out and came back that way as I always do and just before the gates on a bend a lady waved me down, be careful she said there is a tree down, and as I went round the corner I could see the track on the verge as people drove round it, now this wasn't a massive tree it was a rotten one about 8 inch thick, are you from the house I asked and she replied to say she was the house keeper, the owners were away and she didn't know what to do and is waiting for a couple of people to get back to her to get rid of the tree, but where she was she did not have a signal but being on a bend it was dangerous. in my best charm I said I would help I explained I would tow the tree up the road and make it safe, so in the jeep I keep a few bits, tow rope, spade, saw etc and put a tow rope round the tree and dragged it and it snapped off and came up the road nicely and we rolled it into the verge. I used the saw to cut off small branches, then I said who I was and what I did shooting wise I said I shoot that field pointing and I would be happy to have a meeting with the owners and gave her a card. This morning at 8.30am a guy called me to say who he was and thanked me for helping with the tree and said he would like to speak to me about the deer and rabbits, I said I would pop over in the hour which I did. I have just got back and have gained a acre estate that's never been shot has a lot of bunnies, deer and foxes that he wants rid of. Now that was easy so it can be done there is land out there and we are due heavy winds and farmers are going to be busy but if you happen to be out on Monday when its all over you may find a farmer working away clearing roads, trees or a fence has landed on his fence and broken it and he has animals on the land that could get out. If you spend the day helping it will go a long way to getting your own land. 1 Quote Link to post
Lloyd90 509
Well done mate, I got a big farm down by me when I was working in the local pub after school. Driving along with the pub land lord I seen an upside down sheep (Was pregnant n full of lambs) so jumped the fence and ran over to flip the poor bugger over before the crows had its eyes out. As running over cos the pub landlord (my boss) and his son (whos my mate) were watching I had a joke n dropped my joggers to my ancles running towards the sheep they were pissing em selves laughing. I just flipped the sheep over n ran back to the lads ... later down the pub the farmer stopped in n said he'd seen the lot  ... and then I asked him if theres any shooting, had shooting rights there for the last 5 years. Got a small pond you can feed for ducks, a sand dune area with lots of rabbits and its got bloody massive fields crawling with hares. It really is a cracking lil spot 1 Quote Link to post
