THLpatrick 555
dont go to smal or to big, just find parents that do everything you want and more.. What i mean is, i got a whippet x bull, that should of done everything if she made the height etc, but i got her for two things rabbits and rats, now if you get a lurcher to lurcher that parents do a variety, if your obsession for hunting grows and the game you hunt (which im sure it will, its an addiction) then you'll have something there that you can work with in all areas All id say is, dont go any particular cross route, just worker to worker get abit of background and find what method suits you and your dog, make it your best mate from day one, that always helps! good luck with finding your pup mate edit to say: Go for the racey stuff, you want something that catches! 2 Quote Link to post
NEWKID 27,741
Whatever you choose, you will make the dog mate... Put lots of time in and you'll reap the rewards, Some good posts on here on types of xs etc, owning a 3/4 whip x 1/4 bed I can vouch that they are decent enough rabbit dogs, the first x is a bit head strong for me.. Had collie xs and will again, great allround moochers IMO... Watched a few bull xs over the last few seasons, and one in paticular is very impressive, but a lot of dog for a beginner IMO.. Just watching a heavily saluki blooded dog grow over the last 2 seasons and he's coming on well... Collie x would be my choice, or a small splash of beddy Good luck mate.. R.A.W 1,987
Some good advice and some bad but whatever you decide on be prepared to put the work in and you'll be rewarded 10 fold. I still remember being stood in a field in the small hours brimming with pride as I watched my first lurcher catch her first rabbit. Even now when I go out I still get a kick when my dogs do the small things right. It's never been just about catching for me but the partnership between two animals. Enjoy your dog whatever you go for ATB RAW 4 Quote Link to post
Suzy Ross 236
Don't know about for a first dog but I love the whippet greyhound, ticks all the boxes for me. Mine isn't as hyper as you'd imagine the cross to be. Pretty level headed. Quote Link to post
