Holding Ferrets

Recommended Posts

Well I have to say my ferrets don't really bite now big improvements but when I handle them for more than a few mins at a time they start trying to get me off scratching and wriggling is there a way of getting them comfortable or relax them or is it just Bordem. I hold them pretty firm as I don't trust them 100% they don't like being picked up off the floor but out the box and hutch there fine any advice or is it just a case of keep trying

Cant really put my finger on how to keep them relaxed...

Its all about how you are...some people seem to be natural at handling them....others look like robots....

The fact you dont trust them...will mean your probably the latter...and look like something off doctor who  ....

Handle them...change hands... stroke them... move them about.... swing them gently...note GENTLY...

Would you be happy gripped in a vice and not being able to move :hmm: ...

SOMEBODY WHO HAS DEFINITLEY 'JUST GOT IT' ....

When you have them are you holding them with there feet between your index finger and your next finger thumb on the back of there neck , they will sit like that quite comfortable then run your free hand down there body a few times i think that helps relax them

Yer that's what iv been doing one of them is really good took him out today and worked brilliant and picked him up and was really good but the other one is ok handling for a few minutes but when he's working he's mad jumping up my leg trying to bite iv been told its excitement but he don't calm down good worker bolts the rabbits quick and he's fine to get out the box and hutch but hold him to long and pick him up off the floor he's a nightmare dunno what to do with this there. Has been big improvements since getting him but iv got ferrets to work them not to just feed quick hold and back in the hutch.its so weird the ferrets I have are brothers and iv done exactly the same with each of them and one is really good and he's awful

When your out working him and youv'e killed your first rabbit drop him on it and let him take all his excitement out on it drag it about till he stops latching on to it and i think he will be calm enough to handle for longer periods
