Tornado1979 145
Does anyone know any decent shooting ranges i'd be able to use for zeroing and some extra practise off the field in the Doncaster, South yorkshire area with Rimfire / Centrefire ?? i'd also like a idea of cost, i.e. do you have to be a member or can you pay one off payment each visit. My tickets not arrived yet but want to be prepared, i've got some permissions I can use for zeroing but would also like to do at range on occasions Quote Link to post
The Seeker 3,048
There used to be a club at Birdwell not sure if it's still going though, I'm not aware of any other ranges in South Yorkshire, theres a really good indoor range at Carlton Moor Notts which a bit of a drive but excellent set up (google it) or the final suggestion would be Mirfield in West Yorkshire which has an outdoor range. Alsone 789
There's definitely one at Barnsley in an old quarry as I have friends that go, Its a short range (50 yd I think) rimfire range and a few long range (several hundred metre) centrefire ranges. I'm not sure of the name though unfortunately. I'm also pretty sure you have to be a member. I'll see if I can find out. For some reason the Wombwell area is springing to mind but could be unrelated. charlie caller 3,654
Mirfield is good and you don't need to be a member, Calton moor is not as my mate Seeker says in Notts, it is in Derbyshire just past Ashbourne, mike is a very nice chap, and very helpful and really knows his stuff about rifles, it is a pipe range underground so you can zero in totally wind free conditions, there is also Mattersy rifle and pistol club near Doncaster, I have never been but a google search will bring it up mate. 1 Quote Link to post

Alsone 789
I spoke to the person concerned its Mattersey Rifle and Pistol Range near Doncaster. http://www.matterseyrapc.org.uk/ They are recruiting and have enquiry days once a month when you can turn up and get the spiel plus have a shoot. Other than that you have to be a member. Quote Link to post
wabbit slayer 16
There is a range just off the A19 called Hensall rifle club. Membership is around £ per year, but you have to be a member to shoot there. Its open every day but there has to be 2 full members there for you to shoot, its owned by the police so they shoot there too on odd days. Air rifle and rimfire ranges all outdoors but shooting area is under cover (no 17hmr permitted) Just pop along one saturday or sunday morning to have a look and a chat. 1 Quote Link to post

Tornado1979 145
Went to Mirfield yesterday, nice set-up but was packed out, I was trying to zero in on the 100yd range and had 6 people waiting behind me to get in my spot, pressure was on for the new boy , £10 for range use and no time limit set, not bad at all. I will be visiting again but avoiding Friday afternoon, spoke with staff and it's £100 for year membership for unlimited range use, not bad but it's a hour drive so not very practical for me. Mattersey rifle club is only 10mins from my house but can't see option for visitors on website and had no response to email, £100 fee + £200 membership each year, too expensive for occasional zero and practice.
