Lenny Vs Roy

Recommended Posts

Both powerful and fearless men right enough......must admit ive never thought Roy did himself any favours with these interviews they make him sound like a sore loser especially being that Lennie wasnt around to dispute what he said......besides which if David Haye can get slaughtered for using a broken toe as an excuse for losing.....using ginseng as an excuse for getting sparked out... well..........

Lennies cousin who i knew from the boxing got me a job working on a door with the pair of them years ago when my life was in a shit state....everyone knew who Lennie was and i must admit i was a bit wary of him and thought i might be a bit out of my depth but he was great i wouldnt say we was friends but i got to know him over the few years i was working, this was after the Shaw fights he was about 11 or 12 years older than me but even at 22 stone whatever he was he could move when he had to ive said many times ive never seen a more explosive man than Lennie.

What needs remembering with the fights with Roy Shaw is in Roys defence he was much smaller than Lennie and a good 13 maybe 14 years older.......Roy only lived a mile or so from me in the last years of his life and we had similar business interests so spoke the odd time i always found him a gentleman and a nice fella.....but with or without gloves id say Lennie would have beat him 9 out of every 10 times they fought........couple of good old school boys out the East End who don

well for themself after a rough start in life.

Gnasher the way you described lennie is how I always thought someone who knew him personally might describe him, but what about roy, was he as unhinged as he comes across when you see him on these films?

I didnt know him well enough to comment mate.....he was always polite and friendly enough but you knew he wasnt a man to be taken lightly........as men id say the difference between the two of them was Lennie had a natural menace about him,his wife used to laugh and say he even snored aggressively :D .....he just had an aura about him.........Roy didnt have that.

Yep he could deal with people Lenny he had a great sense of humour........around the early 90,s Leicester square was buzzing you had the Hippodrome, the Equinox,Napoleons......then walk back towards Soho there was Ronnie Scotts...........Lennie worked all them clubs he was the most sought after bouncer in London not just because he could have a row but because of his general way he had great charisma people just liked him.

Both of them seem like hard blokes but would have morals about them and not be the ones to start trouble. Defiantly can't say they lacked heart. I'd agree aswell about talking about someone when their dead. Did they earn a decent living just from the fighting or was they into other things aswell? Just curious what they would earn for it. Suppose they'd also be wanted as debt collectors on the side like they would bouncers.

Not like alot of bouncers today. Don't suppose any of you old gits don't mind drum and bass and have been the nightclub fabric? Getting in you feel as if you've been sexually abused. Was even worse for me when I had them foaming in my face telling me I'm a little man after I dropped my boxers to them lol. Stood on a table with a few polish blokes on roids with my cock out wasnt the best Friday night.

Thanks lads for the replies. Interesting. And Hot Meat, I guess these guys were natural fighters. I read somewhere, and this could be utter bullshyte, that Roy Shaw used to fight Rottweilers. a book I had once he said he put his fist down one dogs throat and pulled his lungs out :icon_eek: could be just words to sell a book but he sounded serious at the time. (That's it it, I remember now, he told the story on the old Talk Radio before it was called Talk Sport)
