E-collars are awesome! Every dog I own is trained to recall when I push the tone function. They hear beep-beep-beep and stop and come straight to me. This holds true even if they are in hot pursuit

Dranny, an electric collar would be the last thing i'd use in this case. If your dog hunts up after a slip at night make sure you are giving it the best possible chance to make a catch. Hunting up can be born of frustration.

Question to ask is, does your dog feck off when it makes a catch. I'd bet it doesn't and comes right back with its prize?

Make sure you are doing ALL you can to put your dog in a position to make catches. Right night, right speck, right field position, right rabbit to run. When your dog clicks that catches come when it is at your side looking down the beam, things will get better.

spot on that  . he is 100% right we know the dog not going to catch every rabbit you put it on, but it gets success with most of it runs, it will use the lamp(beam) to get its rabbits, and not hunt up in the dark. With any lurcher ive had ive always tried to get on the easiest rabbit for them, even if it ment walking up to get them when young dogs.Even with Bryn my 6 year old dog, who had tons of rabbits in the lamp, i will still try to drop him on easy ones if i can, but most cases he catches what i put him on anyaway.

I would get the dog sharpened up on the recall and retrieve training with fur and then try the lamping and as others have said getting a catch. If the dog hunts up, turn tail with the dog in the field and head for the car and go home, don't keep letting him do it. He will work it out I am sure. And as temping as it might be, don't illuminate another rabbit once he has missed one without him returning to the slip first. Every run, miss or catch, lamp off, a quick call and turn tail and start walking away, try not too switch the lamp on sweeping the field to find the dog while its hunting up, it wont help and only encourage the unwanted behaviour.

Good luck

My dog won't come back when lamping was thinking about getting a electric shock collar to zap him when he doesn't return until he realises it stops once he comes back any ideas if this would work or if anyone has used one for recall. ?

yes it does work but.if ya don't know what ya doing with an e collar you can and probably will send the dog the wrong way they are only used as a last resort i had to use one on one of mine i tride all sorts to get him back he would hunt up on the lamp all the time on the lamp i know its a twat to get the dog back but try everything 1st before you try an e collar if you try everything 1st and it doesn't work i will give you a web site for a good e collar

I got him [BANNED TEXT] he was 14 months old so he wasn't trained when I got him and he was my first lucher. I made a rabbit skin dummy ad throw it for him he ran after it then just started chewing it. Like I say in a field with no rabbits one call and he's back iv Evan had people complement me in our local dog walking park how good his recall is.

Can i ask how long you have had him.....?

If you look at it from the dogs point of view... why would he bring back his catch to you....

A bit of advice about forums... if you explain fully the situation your in, then your going to get the most appropriate response.... :)
