Was my first night out tonight, wind was good dry and the moon coverd by some cloud

So trotted out took the 25 and the 18 got to the first drop where i know holds alot of rabbits,

Was still abit to light from the moon but cracked on any way, dropped the two nets and started beating in, got to the nets and unfortunatly no rabbits. I wasnt realy expecting to catch but realy enjoyed it. As i got to my last peg of my last net when picking up i bent down to pick it up and BAM net slipped off my end peg so that'll need sorting in the morning, not a perfect night but all in all i realy enjoyed it and looking forward to my next night out hopefully when the moons died out

Well done for getting out Jack. Dont worry about not catching, your not the first to go home empty handed on their first outing and you wont be the last

Keep a little note book of each drop you do, you'll soon know when to go out or stay by the fire

I would not worry about it, it took me about eight goes before I caught my first rabbits. If you know there are rabbits there and you did not catch, it could be down to a number of reasons, that are beyond your control. A fox could have walked the field just before you set the net, the rabbits are not out feeding at the time you set the net. The full moon would not have helped as the rabbits do not tend to wander far from home when the moon is full.

My advice would be go at a different time next time you do that drop give them and hour each side of the time you went. Say you went at 10 try at 9 the next time and feel the rabbits bellies if they are full then iot is a fair bet they are feeding earlier. Or try 11 and if their bellies are empty then you know they are feeding later into the night.

Another factor is watch your approach they can wind you from a few fields away, even if it means a long walk just to make sure that they cannot wind or hear you, that walk is worth it.

An over the hill set, or blind set compared to a flat field, are easier to catch rabbits, although a flat field set you will still catch its better that conditions are spot on, and be a bit quicker, as the rabbits will head for home quick time.

I used to do a blind set that had a banking, which meant the feeding rabbits could not see me, I always caught rabbits on it, in any conditions, even very early morning in daylight.

Keep at it, you will connect, I dont night net now, but have some great memories.

just use the nets for daytime ferreting.
