Sambo-H 52
Well to be honest sire of my bitch did every thing I expect of him and so does his daughter and have people to back this up, just for a laugh one day I showed the sire of bitch to win a good show round my way, then when he had gone, gave him to a bloke now a good friend for FREE as long as he looked after the dog properly and came back to me if didn't want, now show the bitch which she has done well over the years and is something to do in the summer months now plans are set to have a litter out of her as she is the best bitch ever I have owned, pups won't be expensive at all.so to own good looking dogs that excel at there job, wat more could you ask for, don't tar everyone with the same brush Looks or showing ability mean shit to me mate..i wasnt tarring anyone..just asking a question..if you want to show your dogs thats fine with me.. are ok bud you are wright don't matter wat it looks like as long as it grafts its socks off and is good looks are a bonus Quote Link to post

Bosun11 537
In the early 80's, a very nice bloke, who was a very good greyhound trainer advertised his stunning dog Issac at stud, in the then Shooting News. I knew John quite well, met him at a talk night at the old Wigan Club and spoke to him at almost every Cup too. He mentioned me having a puppy a few times. Thing is, though I do believe his dog was a worker as well as a looker, that photo he used in the ads, stood like a KC dog, sort of put me off the dog and anything off it too. If John had maybe used a pic of the dog in the field and excelled its field virtues first in the ad, maybe I'd have been more taken with it... As I would with any other, nowt wrong with any dog winning a show BUT its a bit part, a novelty, a bit of fun. You want to advertise pups, then do it off the back of the dog in the field... As it should be. Quote Link to post

boyo 1,398
funny this topic coming up ive just recently sent a letter in to the cuntrymans about just this thing . imo theres nothing wrong in someone wanting to own a nice looking lurcher how many times have we said on here, stunning looking lurcher or nice sort and other things like this . its when the owner pretends it is doing something it is not and bigging it up as the bees knees on differant stuff that it gets up my back . but if someone wants to show their lurcher cant see why some on here , take it to heart . enjoy them for whatever you enjoy doing with them is my motto and if that is lamping mooching coursing racing or SHOWING so what chill out and enjoy your own dogs and dont worry what a. n. other are doing with theirs . CBdogsA1 420
Seeing as I have an advert on the go I shall tell you why I put ' sire, winner of the 2013 Uplands bull x championship ' Simple, so that people who attended this show or other shows the dog was entered in will know the dog that I used to line my bitch and got to see him in the flesh. Is he a worker, you bet. Plenty people show their dogs, why ? because they are PROUD of them. I enjoy going to the odd show, enjoy the crack and keep in touch with people I hunt with through the season. They are also a great way to socialise a pup. The entry money, I hope, goes towards running a club etc for people to attend meets and run there dogs on lures etc. Each to their own and remember, not everyone has the benefit of permission, vehicles etc. I showed the dam a couple of times and one judge asked me if she worked, reply " yes, she's a joiner ". Not even a smile from him lol. Then there is the old favourite of ' that dog don't work, not a mark on it '. A kennel fight can end up with serious marks, do they make it a worker !!!! I have a 12 year old jackrussell that has had around 15 to 20 digs every year since she was 3, you would never know this by looking at her. Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
I personally wouldn't buy a dog that couldn't win a show ... I want to inflate my ego with scores of red Rosets whilst prancing around in my best waistcoat and flat cap during the dry summer months ... And besides if you had a worker that means you have to go out in them cold wet winter months and catch furry things ... Not for me thank you ............... 2 Quote Link to post
