When Trying To Get Permision

Recommended Posts

When ever I've tried to get permission to run my dogs the land owners are always very abrupt and quick to say no and look at you like your a no gooder, but when ever I ask about permission to hunt with my bird it's like they are talking to a different person. (some how you have now gained respect or interest) but your the Same person, same interests same quarry, but a whole different view seems to be taken. Why do people have a bad view on people who run dogs, or is this from my own experience.

No,it is definitely a different mentality to hawks when approaching some people, you are viewed differently no doubt. I got into hawks about 8 years ago, but come from a background of terrier work & lurchers, the attitude change is huge! You can talk to absolutely anyone about hawking & they will be fascinated, but I rarely gave details about terrier & lurchers work over the years to non- hunters. It's a shame but true....

Farmers are a very tight knit and suspicious community, bad tales of lurcher folk are spread and expanded upon amidst them,in reality there are enough bad encounters they,ve received from lurcher and terrier lads to keep the fires stoked for years.Earn one,s trust, aid and assist them at busy times,do a bit of mole control, fix a wall, fence or gate etc. freebie or mates rates and the permission slowly follows. Its taken me 30 years to get the permission i now use,its often one step forward and 3 back with farmers,i lost permission last year with dogs because of nuggets killing stock, ill slowly ease them back on the land.Earn their trust, never abuse it and eventually the permission,s follow, until then,be careful.

It's lads that r knocking on farmers doors with a smashed up bull greyhound with a white Fred perry hoodie and a pair of Nike air max on asking if they can go lamping on there land, it normally helps if u know sum 1 that knows the farmer, or ask for ferreting first and once u got to know farmer and he trusts u then go of lamping

Just a question as i realy want some permission. befor lurchers i was realy into my pcp rifles. As someone has said farmers see dogs a stock worriers. So instead of me trying for the dog how about air rifle? Gain there trust then mention the lurcher or is it just as hard with the gun? Anyone have/had experience with both? Cheers.

I don't think it is much to do with livestock, cast your minds back & try & remember any stories in the national press about thuggish falconers or shooting men marauding over people's land & then remember the ones about lurcher & terrier men.....need I say anymore? Public perception.......I love lurcher & terrier work, but it just attracts f****** imbeciles
