Thanks mate,

She plunged into nettle and bramble and managed to grab hold of the rabbits back foot, she was then dragged about a bit. When I got to her she had her legs either side of a small tree with the rabbit jumping all over. It took a couple of minutes to untangle her before she calmly waited for me to take off one of its back legs for a smooth trade off.

I can't fault her keenness but worry about her feathers when she gets bashed about that.

Don't worry about the feathers mate, my male used to get dragged into all kinds of situations & no damage, the feathers would just 'banana', easily rectified with boiling hot water, unlike my gos who needed 5 imps after 1 cock pheasant!

With the wind last week and the rain this week it's been hard to get out hunting but we've had a couple of good hunts but no kills. The cover has made life hard and rabbits are pretty scarce. Anyway

It's all about getting out fella

She caught a pheasant this morning over the pointer. She had missed two earlier so I was pleased her hard work paid off. More than that not so long ago she would fly away across fields at the sight of my dog, Articgun saw how she acted, so to see her this week starting to realise that the dog is her ally makes me feel pretty good lol.

Good one mate, its been dead around here just a lately, trying to get him going mine going on the lamp but not fairing too well

It's not been good here lately either, I haven't ventured onto any dales land yet but wherever we go the dog is bringing out dead mixy rabbits. Its a dirty habit he has but shows the extent of the problem. There aren't any reared pheasants where I go so they aren't that numerous and don't always sit tight to give me time to set up the right flush but that's often the case with wild phessies that have seen a few dogs and lived through being shot at etc.

Now that the clocks change ill have to give lamping a go.. I've seen some good sport this week so I'm relatively happy. I'd have liked to have gone out tomorrow but I let her eat her fill from today's kill, she's missed a few pheasants this week so I figured it would be a good idea to let her feel that she is rewarded when successful.

Lol

She puts up with me every day so a couple of hundred quid here and there ain't no big deal. I picked up a pair of Seeland wellies, they feel real comfortable with a vibram sole so I think they will be even better than Muckboots.

I put back the £250 trousers, I'd have only been left crying when the inevitable happened and I ripped them up on barbed wire.Nice gear in there but mostly out of my price range.

  • 2 weeks later...

Its been a difficult week with all the wind and rain, yesterday I went to a dales area but the wind either blew her across the field or made her overshoot. She did get to kill a suicidal rat around a pond a few days ago and a moorhen today. Trying to stay positive with the weather constantly hindering us.

Out this afternoon I bumped into Arcticgun and his hawk. Mine went mental when he saw the spaniel because she is still bad around dogs and I think always will be.Anyway we split up and mine jumped onto a rabbit which had a touch of mixi, the other hawk arrived above us but by the time Arctic caught up it had disappeared. We soon found her on top of another bunny in a thick bush. After that with my hawk acting up we split up again and I went looking for something along the beck, when I got back to Arcticgun I saw his hawk fly down onto rabbit number three.

That's Arcticgun's glove, my hawk gets too upset by strange dogs so even though she got to catch a rabbit today I'm not too happy. Even though she has caught game over my pointer she definitely worries about him at times. I'll see what position we are at by the end of the season. As it stands we aren't compatible.

Worst case scenario is ill have to part with her and get in a youngster in for next season. I haven't give up yet though, either way ill do what I need to do.
