With the wind last week and the rain this week it's been hard to get out hunting but we've had a couple of good hunts but no kills. The cover has made life hard and rabbits are pretty scarce.

Anyway today within ten minutes of leaving the car the pointer had flushed out a mixied rabbit which the hawk jumped on. The poor bunny was seriously ill so it dosent really count but the hawk seemed happy and what's more she has started to look towards the dog to find her quarry. Theres more work to do before I get the dog/ hawk partnership I want but its a start

Thanks mate, She plunged into nettle and bramble and managed to grab hold of the rabbits back foot, she was then dragged about a bit. When I got to her she had her legs either side of a small tree wi

Thanks mate,

She plunged into nettle and bramble and managed to grab hold of the rabbits back foot, she was then dragged about a bit. When I got to her she had her legs either side of a small tree with the rabbit jumping all over. It took a couple of minutes to untangle her before she calmly waited for me to take off one of its back legs for a smooth trade off.

I can't fault her keenness but worry about her feathers when she gets bashed about that.

I can only imagine, I don't think mine could have held on for much longer with little more than the rabbits toes in her talons. It was windy this evening but I still went out for an hour. I only saw two rabbits and they weren't in any risk but I was happy to see the hawk watching the dog and battling against the gusts of wind to stay with us.

It was too windy and I was maybe taking a risk, but I feel we are making some progress and that she is accepting the dog. The daft dog brought me a dead mixied rabbit out of the bramble. Thankfully he dropped it when told and I was able to hide it before the hawk saw it.
