Too late for the brave heart speeches.

Nothing will be done

Nothing will change

One of the reasons I don't read any newspapers, it's a constant flow of negativity..

As individuals you can only walk through life and deal with what gets put in front of you, all you have to try and do is think about if how you deal with it is contributing to the general good.

Have a vote now an again, see if anything happens......if it don't, well dry your eyes and crack on.

Chris, good post mate and one I pretty much agree with

I have to say one of the best reactions I ever heard to a terrorist attack was the chap in Glasgow airport giving the interview for Sky News

"I saw thee paki on fire running towards me, so I dropped him" FPMSL

I think British security should be outsourced to weegies

Shame so many people forget every struggle they ever had in lifes journey........having grown up on a council estate yourself why would you have such apathy ( to use your own word ) towards people who grow up on council estates ?.......What is it you think folk should be doing anyway ? The start of most problem solving begins with a bit of complaining and whingeing why would this one be any different........

Wait dont tell me this is going to end in one of them little " Vote Ukip " tags like what the little lads off the estates put on their graffiti

Ukip being the hi viz vest of our societies ......we,re all safe and cant possibly come to harm just as long as we vote Ukip :whistling:

Gnash. I moved away. I broke the cycle. I worked hard and got the f**k out. I don't have apathy for the situation, as I refused to be dragged into it. I wasn't having my kids growing up to be plastic gangsters, and I've had enough of my hard earned shit destroyed by people who won't work for themselves. I've always tried to give as much as I can, to help my neighbours, but community is dying. It's been long dead in some areas. You know which ones are near you, as do I near me.

I haven't forgotten my journey. It's been an arduous one but I took it to protect those I love from those that want to take all that I have. I've seen the government (legal thieves) empty my wallet, every single day. I've also seen the scum empty enough of my gear to have zero fucks for some of my so called neighbours. I realised that the only change I could make was with my feet. So I walked.

It's not my call to create policy for the rest of my fellow human beings. To each his own but the apathy shown by most is why we're in the state we're in. People simply do not give a f**k. The dole drops them money and they spend it on beer, cigs and drugs whilst complaining they don't have enough to put nappies on the kids. They can spend it on whatever they want to but if they truly give a shit their kids would come first. Instead they get a master class on how to take from the system while contributing nothing.

I understand that complaining and whinging is the start but again it's not enough and it's all that's going on.

What should folk be doing? We could try not being c**ts to each other for starters. That's actually free and requires only minimal effort. However it has little cash incentive so isn't for everyone.

UKIP. I'm going to give them a shot when the time comes around, it'll make a change from my usual spoiled ballot. I'm skeptical of all politicians. They're all lying cheating b*****ds but these lying cheating b*****ds are currently untested and spinning a rhetoric that hasn't been heard for a very long time. Again that sliver of hope that maybe someone could upset the status quo in the giant government cash machine. Maybe someone could actually make things better. I'm not expecting miracles. I'm not expecting anything of the sound bites we hear. I'm expecting just a slice of respect from the people we pay to do the job... UKIP? Just maybe, for once, I can speak to an MP that respects us for a little longer than election season.

Will it work? Will it change anything? Will they do this? That? Or anything they promised?

Probably not but I still have that little flame of hope left.

Very interesting post mate made for good reading  .....Same boat for me as regards moving away, different reasons slightly but same outcome......You point out things that can be done like " not being c**ts to each other "......thats it ?......so if you are not a c**t to people is that it your job is done ?.........what about actually helping your community ?....or have you given up and forgot where you came from ?.......Maybe its different for me in that i didnt really want to move away but i spend most days back there.....im no Mother Theresa but id like to think being in an ok position financially nowadays i can actually give something back to the people and places i came from......im nobody to be dishing out advice to youngsters but in that event i do my best to steer kids along the right path, thats helping no ?......Showing youngsters values in what they already have around them instead of value in things they cant reach......thats helping no ?.......While its only tiny steps they are at least positive steps......your positive steps are to vote Ukip,to me thats not a positive step thats just a desperate step.....you say yourself these suits are all lying cheating b*****ds......yet you are putting your hopes in them !!......thats trying for change from the outside im talking about trying for change from the inside.

I dont know maybe im naive in that i still have faith in the man who stands next to me.........but possibly like yourself i ran out of faith in politicians long ago.......ok so we all like a bit of a moan now and again but i think its way too late in the day to think some sort of quick miraculous cure is upon us.....what is it they say about an earthquake it takes 10 seconds to create the mess and 10 years to put it right..............same applies to labours great multi cultural experiment !

Apologies for the delay in the reply. Duty calls, unfortunately! :D

As I said in the post, not being c**ts to each other is just for starters. It's the alpha, not the omega but if we truly didn't covet our neighbours wife, car, telly, etc, to the point where we're seeing how much of his shit we could take we would truly be on the road to a community once more.

My strategy was checking up on the older folks that lived near me. Checking to make sure they had heat, power, and that someone hadn't stolen their gear. Doing a few odd jobs around the house, and making sure that they didn't live like we're in the third world. My wife would cook so that the war veterans had a decent meal once a day because Brown and co think it's a great idea to take whatever money we had saved for a rainy day, and drop it into some other bullshit social program. You know. The usual taken for granted stuff that people in communities do. I'm not perfect, but if we all checked in our neighbours a couple of times a week would that help us address the balance? Love thy neighbour? At least be corteous and don't piss him off? I found that if I couldn't help my neighbour, I could at least do things that wouldn't get on his tits. Is that community?

I moved away through choice. Salford can burn for all I care. I got out of there, lived around Manchester for a few years and now I work abroad coming home whenever I have the time. My neighbours either died or moved on to other places. To be replaced by people in the system who have no time for neighbours, and community. They stole my gear. Vandalised the rest. It was time to move on. I don't reminisce about the good old days. I miss some of my friends but the very definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results. Basically living in the same environment, going to the same job, and expecting improvement. It wasn't working.

Likewise with me. I'm in no position to tell youngsters how to do things. Not that they'd take a blind bit of notice anyway. My duty was/is to my kids. I could not, with my hand on my heart, tell them to do things that I ignored as a kid. I can only lead by example. So I work hard and I moved away. I agree with what you're saying about values but how do you show kids the value of working a 50+ hour week, with hard graft, when they can see a local drug dealer making 3 times what I'm doing by never leaving his house and having a kip in the afternoon? No amount of Jonesy family values can stop kids coveting thy neighbours 60" LED flat screen, XBox, and shoe boxes full of cash. Especially when I'm trying to figure out whether we have gas or electricity this month.

Politics. All lying cheating b*****ds. All of them. I have no faith in a party. An individual, or their cause. Their crimes, over the last few decades, have worn a callus of cynicism so thick that I would have a hard time seeing how the status quo could be changed to benefit you and I. I just don't believe it. I do, however, believe that a democracy is the best form of government we can hope to have. I feel only that it could be changed if enough disgruntled voters could be bothered to engage in the process. The last 20 years of statistics says that isn't happening any time soon. Can it be fixed? I sure as hell don't know but what is the alternative?

I don't sincerely believe that UKIP can change the direction of the machine, but I do believe that a vote for them is a little better than the spoiled ballot that I would normally cast. I'm not voting in desperation, I'm voting in the hope that it could change a few attitudes, in Westminster, when it threatens their jobs and their livelihood. I see it as a protest vote, and nothing more. They could perceivably change things but we know nothing of them other than the rhetoric? They could crusade to change Britain, or they could simply slot straight in and do absolutely f**k all. Like the current offerings.

I agree that a miraculous saviour isn't coming. The fix we need may not even come in our grandkids lifetime.Your earthquake analogy is spot on but in this context maybe the flooding argument is closer to home. Why save the people that pay your wages when you can fund India's space program?

Like you I still have a little faith in my fellow man. Probably less than you, if I'm honest. Again I try to lead by example but that doesn't work in council estate setting. Maybe too many burglaries, thefts, muggings, and vandalism has ruined it for me completely. I can't change the world but if I can influence my boys, into taking the right path, then it's my lifetime achievement.

That's the only way I can see us changing things from within. We start at home. We lay the foundations, and build the structure. If we're right it will weather the storm.

 it's the way it should be done. One thing about Glaswegians they don't f**k about. The Glasgow kiss for example, why risk hurting your hand when one blow from the head smack on the nose will floor the biggest of c**ts  nicest folk you'll ever meet and the toughest b*****ds in a blink of an eye if need be. I'm proud of the Glasgow people.
