I have hunted with guys in the past who wouldn't know a fit dog if it latched onto their balls........but in their eyes the dog was FIT

 

They've gotta be fit for purpose........whatever that purpose is.......

 

And getting a dog fit to do a job is not rocket science and it doesn't need to be complicated either.....

Tell you what Paul....I think a lot of dogs fall down/jack/are passed on/branded useless because of a lack of conditioning/fitness rather than a lack of ability.....natural ability will only get you so far....a fit for purpose hard, mediocre dog will be more use than a poorly conditioned top class dog......

Of course some folk are mentally stronger....hence the reason why 10 people could never reach the same level of fitness.....you could give 10 people the same exercise/nutrition/rest regime....but some would try harder then others......

imho a lot depends on the style of the dog. i would imagine a collie type would have a greater chance than say a whippet type both have totally different styles one suitable for sustained constant work loads and the other for short fast sessions

imo thats why whippets wont do the same numbers as the lurchers before anyone starts im not knocking whippets

I agree but I reckon most whippets could do more than % of lads would ask them to.

 

I hear loads saying "would a whippet run all night" then they decide to get a lurcher and take it out for half an hour on the lamp

 

and alot couldnt do what % expect them to do great we dogs but not for me

Of course there is fit & fit footballers are all fit as they train everyday but those on the sidelines aunt is fit as them that play every game as they match fit just the same with dogs themas are lamped hard 2 or 3 times all week will be fitter than those out & gettin

whippets are cracking dogs that can do more than some would think but iv had them and had some bloody good times with them night after night but lurchers will all ways be my first love not got a pic of her well next to that girl i fingered when i was 14

ive a hard blood here 3qtr whip 1 qtr grey now this fecker is fit he comes to work with me 3 times a week and its not sitting under a desk hes up and down the cheviots at least 5 times in a day and thats not including the few runs inbetween plus lamping on top he has a heart of a lion

i think any well trained running dog would run its self to death if the owner put the lamp on and tryed for that one last run i know mine would but i know when the nights over

Near me I'm lucky to get 5 runs I night I walk about 10 mile and barely get a sitter so I'm lucky if the dog picks 2-3 so 184 how many does the dog miss ???
