Running Dog

But there's 'fit', 'FIT' and 'FIT' surely.....no...... :hmm:

I have hunted with guys in the past who wouldn't know a fit dog if it latched onto their balls........but in their eyes the dog was FIT :icon_eek:

They've gotta be fit for purpose........whatever that purpose is.......

And getting a dog fit to do a job is not rocket science and it doesn't need to be complicated either.....

You never run a dog with an injury, simple as that. But some of the best dogs have guts to burn and will hide it from you. In other words they will try their hearts out when they're physically not a

It's not about the dog getting to much work , it's about the dog man giving it to much work ,you need to know your animal ,I've known to many lads which can't help themselves and give their dog anothe

all depends on what sort of work the dog has done on each night you might give him say 30 runs or more then id give a day or so of but if only a hand full of runs then they be good to go

But there's 'fit', 'FIT' and 'FIT' surely.....no...... :hmm:

is Usain bolt any fitter than Mo Farah or indeed are either of them any fitter than any one who runs 10 marathons in 10 days or are they just horses for courses :hmm:

Would imagine they will all be as fit as they possibly can be to compete at the level they compete at.....and yes, they are horses for courses....very fit ones.....if they weren't fit they wouldn't put in the performances they do.....

Likewise dogs expected to do a job night after night, day after day need to be fit for purpose......

Tell you what Paul....I think a lot of dogs fall down/jack/are passed on/branded useless because of a lack of conditioning/fitness rather than a lack of ability.....natural ability will only get you so far....a fit for purpose hard, mediocre dog will be more use than a poorly conditioned top class dog......

if you took 10 humans all the same. height, weight, age and build and got you got them all to the exact same level of fitness then put them in a marathon running against each other, do you think they would all finish first or might some have an advantage in being mentally stronger :hmm:

Of course some folk are mentally stronger....hence the reason why 10 people could never reach the same level of fitness.....you could give 10 people the same exercise/nutrition/rest regime....but some would try harder then others......

And they'd all finish last......:laugh::laugh:

imho a lot depends on the style of the dog. i would imagine a collie type would have a greater chance than say a whippet type both have totally different styles one suitable for sustained constant work loads and the other for short fast sessions

imo thats why whippets wont do the same numbers as the lurchers before anyone starts im not knocking whippets

I agree but I reckon most whippets could do more than 80% of lads would ask them to.

I hear loads saying "would a whippet run all night" then they decide to get a lurcher and take it out for half an hour on the lamp

and alot couldnt do what 80% expect them to do great we dogs but not for me

ive a hard blood here 3qtr whip 1 qtr grey now this fecker is fit he comes to work with me 3 times a week and its not sitting under a desk hes up and down the cheviots at least 5 times in a day and thats not including the few runs inbetween plus lamping on top he has a heart of a lion

i think any well trained running dog would run its self to death if the owner put the lamp on and tryed for that one last run i know mine would but i know when the nights over

theres always tomorrow ;)
