Longnet Grommet Knot?

Was looking for a bit of advice on how i should tie my top line to the fiberglass poles/grommets. New to longnetting. Do you tie it to the grommet or above them around the pole.... or both? What kind of knot should i use? I acquired some additional grommets that fit the pole nicely but also have a gap around the outside that i could tie into, if that would be worthwhile?

Some of my poles are birch (Quite short) which ill be using towards the end of my 100 yard net. At the moment i have elastic bands to act as grommets, but is there a better way? I also have some strong bamboo canes that my grommets can sometimes fit in places, could switch to birch to those?

Finally i have two 18 foot nets with no poles. Would the bamboo work with them temporarily?

Thanks for any advice.

Clove knot it was, thanks. Also ran some insulation tape around the cord beside the knot for good measure. So its all tidied up now, happy with it, hope the weather clears up for tomorrow. Seen pegs mentioned in another thread, I don't have any, im assuming its to keep the two end poles tight? Would a purse net do if I hook the bottom ring over the poles? What kind of height do you set the net for rabbits?

Its a quickset.

I got the grommets from a friend, just lucky they fit. Simillar looking ones here but not sure what size mine are - http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR10.TRC0.A0.Xrubber+grommet&_nkw=rubber+grommet&_sacat=0&_from=R40
