I've heard of a couple of dogs over the years dieing after eating the cooked cob after the corn was eaten of it.

Does anyone know how it kills a dog ?

Is it through choking or complications in the digestive system ?

This morning I was exercising dogs on a field of recently cut maize and found my lurcher pup trying to eat a cob. I got it off her and she immediately found another, and then another. So I collared her up and got her away from there.

Anyone have any problems with maize ?

The cob itself has been linked to digestive problems, ie obstruction, so I'd avoid them. The corn is fine, as with people not well digested in the whole form and passes through intact. Products made from the corn should be fine and its often used in dog food as a carb source.

Ps, just watch out the Jolly Green Giant don't catch you!

LOL, a giant in green spandex is the least of my problems.

It's something to be wary of as the pup was going to swallow the cob whole. On her third attempt I was up to my wrist down her throat.

Didn't Dave Sleight loose one of his favourite lurchers at a gamefair after she ate a corn cob ?
