My First Bull.

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

This year I had finally the opportunity to get hunting in rut periode. I think this is one of a dreams of a good hunter. For me it was, even more!!

It was middle of September, first trip out was without result, we (me and my host) tried to stalk a bull but he decided to remain in silence after a while so we had to leave without disturbing him. Next day early at 4.00 am in the morning we were heading out from the vilage towards the nearly hills covered with forest. We spotted some rutting souds from some good throats and we were trying to aproach them before the morning light. The muddy terrain and the dark gave us a hard time getting at the first target guy. We foud only the cow and the calf out from the tick bush at 80 m. They spotted us too, but without any hurry they went back in to the tickness. Then, suddenly everything changed fast. Both ran out from the bush, my host whisperred me that the bull pushed them out, and prepare the gun. ... After a couple of seconds the BULL came out and started to roar at us, it was a sound what I will never forget in my life, I started to shake, my host said that it's a good bull for me, ... After 3-4 roars they went in to the thick bush trying to reach the big forest, they had to pass thru an uncoverred path, ... Here my host challenged the bull with a young bull voice, he stoped and looked at us, the fact that I may loose the bull waked me up, and when the bull stoped I put the cross just behind his shoulderblade, ... Shot, ... my guide said that he is paralized because in the moment of shooting he stepped forward and I got his spine back. The bull went just 7-8 m and received my next shot in the base of the neck. Everything was in silence, I couldn't speak just watched him how beautiful, big and great animal I just hunted.

Thank you guys! In north-east Hungary this bull is considered a good one, so the hunting association were I was guided is very happy! They had 10 bulls for this year to harvest, mine is the second one. The truth is that I do not care about to have a very big trophy, my dream was to hunt in a hard area with hill/mountains and thick forest, to hear them provoking each other, to see the bull roaring (is this the right word?) and to make a precise shot because - the high hormons level give them an unbelieveble strength durring this periode. Is a bronze because it has just 100 cm height, not a capital weight and the branches are not very long and tick. Respect!

Thank you all again!! Yes, you are right, medals, bones are just medals and bones, for me the feelings, experiences, well organized huntings and good hunting mates are what matters!!!! These are what come in my mind when I look at them on the wall. I hunted my best roebuck in the easiest way of all other bucks, but the most exciting hunting was one of the weakest trophy buck. My father use to say, "all what we bring with us are the memories" - make them cool!!

The meat was very musky, never took a piece of it. I like red deer meat, we make great sausages from red deer. In the package there was a mention that I am eligible to hunt a cow (read sausage meat) if I hunt succesfuly a bull. So, next month, maybe in December I will be back.

Respect!
