My fhh has been taken out just over a week and been mnning her since. i had her out on creance on sunday and monday and it took her a good hour to get her to do a litl hop on the glove but thats as far as she will go any further away and she isnt interestted. She is now weighing 2lb 1 oz. she was flying at 2lb exactly last season but was definatly showing interest at this weight.. I had her back on the creance yesterday whilse weather was decent but same again no interest at all unless the glove was pretty much under her beak. Should i try shave that littl bit more from her does any 1 think or shuld i just keep repeating my steps??

Just had her back out the aviary shes weighing 2lb0.6 after only 1 chick yesterday. iv let her drop that extra couple of ounce to see how she reacts today. Took her out on creance and still no response i really dunno whats up with her tbh got me baffled.. She will eat straight away if i put her on my glove or put the food under her beak the lazy b*tch ha??? Any questions? Should i low her to 2lb and hold her or any other ideas?

Not really for anyone to give advice on a birds weight over the net pal, but you should know how her keel feels mate, it sounds to me like you might have to drop her a bit more to get her going, if she finished @2lb last season then her starting weight must have been lees, prob more like 1lb15oz ? But as said mate only you can decide on the birds weight mate, but for what its worth it sounds like a weight issue to me.

Thanks for the replys lads. Iv tried givin her tht littl nibble of a chick to get her goin she bobs her head as if she wants to then changes her mind lol. Unless its under her nose ha.. Her keel feels fine mate so im definatly assuming or hoping its only the weight issue. Yeh she started a little under 2 last year and built upto 2 lb exactly for her best response. She was flyin at 2.1 on the lamp. Il trim her down a tid bit more see how she responds. Thanks for the advice lads.

mate, dont feed the f****r for 24 hrs ( as they would sometimes get in the wild), then keep her on one chick a day for a few days, keep a close check on her weight, if it drops too much or too much keel is showing gently up it. They dont come to you or the glove because they like you, they are governed by their stomach, if they have been educated as youngsters and trust you well enough, then the only other thing in my humble opinion, she's not hungry enough, and she know s if she plays you long enough she will get food.

They are very intelligent creatures are harris hawks, as are most, but them especially.

Just my opinion.

I always feed mine on glove etc last year mine was flying at 2.2-2.3 but I had to drop her to 2lb 1.3oz last week to get a reaction and she was straight on it! Now she's back up taking to the glove at 2lb2oz but as she takes to glove I chuck her on floor so she's not feeding of glove constantly! I'm rubbish as writing hope that makes sense! But as the other lads say each bird have different weights and u can't go by what people say feel her keel see if she's sharp or fat isj

hi

if ya bird woz flying at 2 lb at the end of last season then thats were you should start this season, also taking into concideration your birds flying weight will have increased slightly over the season she will probebly need to go below 2lb to get the responce back then ease it back up over the coming season. a.t.b nig

What i find helps to keep them interested is to feed them a little of a full chick then take it of them placing them back onto their "perch" then shout them back instantly, that loss of food seems to get their attention. Also opening a chick up helps a little i find

Are you saying call them to the fist for part of a chick and then take it off them?. Perhaps i have taken it out of context ...

Not the full offering so as soon as they land on the glove take it off them so they have jumped for nothing, let them break into the chick have a little meat then remove the rest and call back straight away, ive found it helps alot

That bird will be running off with its kill everytime.Never ever let a bird see you take food from it chick or otherwise or you will create a 'Carrier'. It will run with it's quarry and carry it as soon as you approach it as it thinks you are going to steal it. If it catches something it can carry it will and something like a pigeon.
