Bought My Cage .....

Recommended Posts

:boogy: I'm working on the Field of Dreams principle!

Just paid for a forty inch double breeder. Figure sitting here, looking at it empty will send me into even greater levels of paroxysm!

It also, of course, makes more f**king sense to have the cage, sitting here, than to find someone with the birds I want and suddenly wonder where the hell I'll be putting them.

There's a place in Sligo, does canaries. And they have a branch in town too. So, it's reasonably possible that they could have birds sent down. Just don't have what I'm after, right now.

I also asked a random shop keeper, today, if he knew anyone that kept canaries. Lo and f**king behold, he says he does!!! :icon_eek: Didn't have the guys number to hand. But, there's another lead.

Thinking about it? I'd better order up some f**king food! Can't buy it in town. Have to go on line and buy some.

Heh. Living in a city, ye just take all this for granted. Nip out to the nearest pet shop and buy what ever ye like. Not here, ye don't!

Best you get out and find some good wild food to stock up on then,it don't take long for the wind to knock the seeds out of things so get collecting and get ahead mate, good luck in the search and well done on getting the cage first  .

Here! Thought's just occurred to me; What colours should I be painting this thing? I know it's not exactly a legal requirement. But, I've always known show cages to be black on the outside. For canaries? White within?

I was planning on ice blue. But, that's for natives, isn't it? You know; traditionally .....

Black and white would be handy. Buy a tiny little tin of each. F**king having 'the smallest they do' tin of blue knocked up, for a couple of brush loads? FFS ....! :icon_eek: Bought 2 1/2 Ltr of undercoat, yesterday. €35.00!!!

I'm sure it depends on colours of birds Pete. Idea being you want a colour Inside which will show off the birds colours better, ole guy I used to get glosters off had some blue and some white, I'm sure it was the cinnamon s that were in blues, just to show there colour better, I'm sure somebody will come correct me if I'm wrong...

got gallons of paint kicking about pete --- pity cant get it over to you ,, just a tought but if you`ve got white gloss you only need a touch of dark blue to make pale blue like wise with green.. a drop of black gloss in your white undercoat will make you grey undercoat ...

Stig; It's having the toning colours to add, mate. I simply don't have a shed of old paint pots here. So, I have to pay through the bloody nose each time to get them blended.

Used to be a great little paint shop, right in the road I lived in. Purely paint. They could mix ye half a pint of any shade ye wanted. Not a problem.

Now? It's all monopoly governed stores and their computerised machines. Churning out half a gallon minimum and costing a fortune!

Half pint pots of black, white, red and, probably, a green are available though.

Gnipper; See the above paragraph. And, as this isn't for show, just to keep my birds in, I guess I'll just slather the inside with 'Brilliant White'.

Well, I've got my cage now. It's nice! Inside back and the trays are already brilliant white. So, that looks like a given. All I have to do now is gloss up the inner sides and ceiling.

Bought a little tin of white and one of black. I have the undercoats. All I need now it time to do the painting! Run up to winter, shedding the horses and all this fencing's got me completely tied down.

Undercoated the outside today! Tomorrow, I hope to turn it over and undercoat the bottom.

Then, thinking about it, in one fell swoop, I should be in just the position to white undercoat the inside!

Follow this same procedure with the gloss and it'll be done. I'll black gloss the cage front when I do the outside.

I'm looking forward to this. My cage! :D

let it dry thoroughly between coats pete and give it a light sanding with wire wool or sandpaper, give it a good key for the next coat and will give your final coat a much "deeper" looking lustre / finsh......... failing that, just f***ing lather it on with a mop :toast:

I'll do that then. Take all the time in the world over it and get it done good ;)

After all, it's 'only' a cage. But, it's My cage. And it's probably the only one I'll have. Might as well make it a good'n
