skycat 6,173
If someone were gonna start prepping and take it seriously.....................a static site would generate a lot of interest from other people who would be intent on stealing/taking your stuff You would have to be damn sure you could defend your assets otherwise they are gonna disappear really quickly. It may be a better idea to plan for a mobile existence, to have everything you need in an easy to carry layout that you can grab quickly...........a kind of grab and go type thing Anyway just a thought, not that I have thought about it before It would be hard to survive in a mobile existence as you'd have to carry everything with you all the time. Best to have several caches well stocked in various places, well hidden. That way you don't depend entirely on your own strength to carry your gear with you. Unless you have a pony to do the carrying, but that would attract a lot of attention as well when people are starving and don't have any idea to even half live off the land. Just a thought, and I have thought about it before Would depend on where you live as well. My dad, during the second world war, found a family of German Jews living in a tree house in the Black Forest. They were well set up, and were undiscovered until my dad, who was a sniper and a hunter, found them towards the end of the war. I think he said that they were pretty much living off the land: mostly wild boar and deer. Was he part of the advancing Allied forces? Or are you a secret Nazi? Lol He went over on D Day, along with his two brothers. One was killed on the beaches, the other badly crippled for life. My dad went through the whole war completely unscathed, but he was a very good shot so was always the sniper. He wouldn't talk about it much, unless he'd had a bit to drink. It affected him very badly, but he did like telling us interesting stories, like the time he went to get a vet for a Dutch farmer who had an ill cow. Apparently he dragged the vet out from under his table during an air raid and took him to treat the cow! That sort of thing was typical of my dad! He used to take the Jewish family chocolate and stuff while he was stationed near them. I wish I'd asked him more about it all but as a kid it was only a momentary interest, and when I was older he was quite ill and wouldn't talk about it any more. People talk about snipers and how amazing they were, but a lot of soldiers hated killing. My dad was one of them. He did his job, was good at it by all accounts, though the thing he would never talk about was when they got to one of the concentration camps. That marked him for life. I only found out he had been a sniper after I'd got old enough to see him shooting rabbits when we lived in Cornwall. He was an uncanny good shot with a rifle.
