What's The Law On Bull Bars?

Recommended Posts

I bought some bull bars for my defender a while ago cheap and decided to leave them of until after the mot, now it's passed I'm gonna stick them back on but I seem to remember something about them being banned years ago? I only want them on for the lamp guards really but they do make the whole vehicle look better lol and I've seen a few still driving round with them on? Can anybody help?

Cheers ant

I had a 'full' bull bar on my old landy for years. Never any problems.

Took it off when I did it up, and realise now that it didn't look as good as I thought it did all that time. :D

Bought one large Upside down U shaped thing with brackets for the spotlights. Looks much better now.

If I was you, I'd just buy the light guards.

The plastic / powder coating splits and comes off in a relatively short time, and they end up looking c**p!

At least with the light guards, you can buy galvanised, or just chuck them and replace when they start looking tired.

If I knew what I was doing, I'd post some photos up for comparison, but I'm a computer dafty! :icon_redface:

That's what they were like when I bought them, chipped of what I could and painted black with hammerite (they only cost £20 so I wasn't to bothered)

Some insurance companies might see it as a modification if it's an after market add on. Always check with your insurance company to make sure. If you have a prang and they send some one out to look at your motor, they'll look for any thing to stop them paying out. I've just had some Insa Turbo Dakar M/T's put on my Hilux. I'm off work next week and going to pop in and tell broker the change I've made just to be safe.
