i have a pet rabbit for the little one which she's had for some time living on its own but some time this week im getting a ferret also.

i was in the process of making two cages that sit on top of each other 1 for the rabbit the other for the ferret which brings me to the question

is it ok to have rabbit a ferret so close ? will the smell of the ferret upset the rabbit or visa versa will the ferret try to get to the rabbit lol ? im not sure...

thanks boom

CT's bang on  Furthermore; If you or - god forbid - ye daughter ever go near that ferret smelling of the rabbit? Things might turn out very regrettably, very fast.

I would point out that ferrets in the field, whilst working, never appear to confuse the smell of rabbit or blood on our hands. But, at home? I've had at least one chase me up the bloody garden!

Strange. But there it is.

ditch i found this out the hard way too a friend turned up with a bag full of shot rabbits from her Hubie and asked if she could see the ferrets so i took her out to the run and said here you go she was a little wary at first and said do they bite i said i haven't been bitten yet so she took hold of one (little did i know she had handled the rabbits) the ferret went berserk trying to ''kill'' her and we had to get the ferret back in the run as quick as we could as soon as i shut the door i realized where we went wrong !!!

ferrets know instinctively to chase a rabbit i have had rescues here that haven't had anything but dry food if they get through my fence they go straight to my neighbors rabbits :icon_eek:
