CrowHawker 227
They got a grip that makes your eyes water They are good birds if handled right like any bird I like the females myself Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
You may find yourself rather dissapointed with a redtail after flying a Harris, they take two or three seasons to really come on song, they are a long term investement. 2 Quote Link to post
Alcatraz 16
Cheers guys your have give me plenty to think about a friend of mine with gos hawks said pretty much the same thing. second and third appinions are always usefull cheers Edited October 12, 2013 by Alcatraz Quote Link to post
Foxhole 22
I have to disagree in part. If you slip a female Red Tail at a rabbit by the time it gets going the rabbit may have escaped. However a male at about 2lb 2oz is perfect. They will go through a brick wall to get it. 2 Quote Link to post

Had both male and female. Still got original female and have to say females are faster, stronger (bigger). Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Why not fly a Gos mate? faster, more agile, capable of catching feather in flight, just as stubborn in training Quote Link to post
Alcatraz 16
Gos hawks are amazing to watch hunt but to much for me to be honest constant worry of tail feathers breaking and so demanding they are hard work and I dont like boxing them up through molt falconers who have finish gos hawks are in a diffrent league. CrowHawker 227
Boxing up threw molt? Quote Link to post

CrowHawker 227
Ah seclusion got you, thought you meant boxing up at night! All my PR birds are molted out in seclusion! Edited October 14, 2013 by CrowHawker Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
That of course does not mean you HAVE to do it that way, there are many ways to skin a cat. Quote Link to post
CrowHawker 227
I don't think that anyone should molt a redtail out in a open fronted pen! Quote Link to post

A rabbit bolting say to about 25 yards the smaller male is quicker and then after that the female would catch it quicker. Considering a rabbit usually is in cover by then a male is mutch better It's simple physics! As for the mews in the moult it's horses for courses with advantages and disadvantages to both but i don't think either is the 'Wrong' way Edited October 21, 2013 by Foxhole 1 Quote Link to post
