.243 and upwards

I'm surprised if that's the case as .22 is more than enough to headshoot a badger surely and I would have thought stealth with NV, moderators and subs would have been the order of the day given the opposition.

243 is the minimum requirement as topper says 100% fact

Is that a government stipulation?

I know badgers are tough but I would have thought .22 rim was more than enough to headshoot an animal of that size.

There are obviously some here that are not familiar with the Protection of Badgers Act 1992, it doesn't matter what may or may not stop a Badger, there are legal minimums.

The Protection of Badgers Act 1992 specifies a bullet weight of not less than 38 grains and with a muzzle energy of not less than 160 ft/lb. The only rim-fire .22 cartridge to meet these specifications is the .22 WMR. (Since this Act in 1992 there have been a handful of .22lr HV developed that meet this minimum), but there are certainly no subs. The Act also prohibits the use of a shotgun of less than 20-bore gauge.

With regards this particular Badger Cull DEFRA placed higher minimums!
