Can't beat a bit of roe venison,, had a nice fillet on Saturday,,,. Still got a few other bits to eat...

 

My eyes are the same now mate,, they keep trying to close,, and I got a smashed finger,, I crushed the end falling of a wall,, looks a right fecking mess,, going up casualty tomorrow

Had to go on my own last night,, as vin was wining and dining her indoors,,,but he was up for ferreting today,,, so I lamped last night,, then stayed up there,, and we both had a mornings ferreting.

 

Had a late start last night,,almost 1 am,, befor I got started,,a good breeze,, not a gale or owt,,but just enough,,,the fist field we had 8 out in no time at all,,, good start , and I didn't know it at the time,,, but it was how things were going to continue,,, rabbit after rabbit,,up and down the beam,, by the time I had got to the fields at the back of the farm,, I had around 30.

 

So after dropping the rabbits off I continued up the fields,, and again rabbit after rabbit,, were being added to the carrying straps ,, by the time a got back down to the road,, Venus had cought 49 rabbits,,,, so obviously 1 more would do to round the night off,, so in to a gateway ,,,,gitton, lass,, and she's up the beam ,, and soon bring back number 50,,

 

Now I had a dilemma ,, there's a good long field on the other side of the road,,, and I thought for a Minuit weather to bother,,, but in the end I just had to do it,,, by the time I got to the other end of this field,, I had 6 more,,, so of course I had to round it off to 60,, lol,,, so a few more fields and 5 more were in the bag,, at this point I turned round and headed for the car,,, and my sleeping bag,,, it was 5.30 am,, and vin was due at 7 for ferreting. The total count was actually 63,, however I had chucked 2 skinny horrible mixys,, so there's 61 in the pic

 

Hopefully vin will ad a few pics,,and a few words about the ferreting,,

 

Good mornings Ferreting with my old dog and the yound pup who's still learning the ropes. . .We had to go up on to the higher ground today where the rabbits seem to be congragating at the moment. . .The mixy has been through the valley bad this year and also i noticed quite a few with bad tapeworm infestations. . .poor buggers have had it rough since last years bad weather and the numbers are lower than usual.

So we split up and went mooching up what we could and letting the dogs do the marking. . . I dont know why but sometimes at least once or twice while im out i look at a set that dog ingnores and think it must be holding..So I net up and 9.9 times out of 10 Im wrong. . .Never learn..

Anyway the old Dog marks up and she,s usually spot on..So most of the day i just dropped a ferret in and let them bolt for the dogs with no nets down.. Didnt miss many and the ones that did get away deserved to get away. Some of the holes on the odd warren were impossible to see until the bunny bolts etc etc..But Sod the nets I love letting the dogs do the catching and its great for getting the pup tuned in.

 

We had to end the day early because Tomo chucked a whitey when he smashed his finger on an rock..he wanted to go home and let his missis kiss it better... he;s such a lightweight.. I nearly had to carry him and another 25 Rabbits off the hill. lol.

The thought crossed my mind after I done it,, I was stood against a wall and feeling decidedly dodgy,,, I thought I was going to go over,,, and all I could think of was little old vin trying to get me of the fell,,, he bleats when he's got 20 rabbits on his back,, feck knows how he would be with 18 stone across his shoulders...lol

Jim there actually some jogging bottoms the same colour,,, met up with Shaun and a few other lads at south nots hunt show,,,, we all had them same trousers on ,,,,lol,,,

 

I tell you mate I spend most my life in them trousers,,, even unzip them for shorts,, like the other week when it was hot ferreting.
