rwb41959 8
I had a client where I used to live who was Iranian, he said the same thing, that they couldn't be sold as they were "from god" or some such thing, and prized above all else Salukis are regarded as one of the oldest if not the oldest breed of dog, they were bred for hunting gazelle in the middle east. Back in ancient times saluki were regarded as sacred by the egyptians, gold statues were unearthed in tombs of the kings. Muslims believe them to be a gift from Allah and were not sold but given away to freinds and family. However this isnt ancient times and im not in the middle east so unfotunately there is a price attached to mine. Some people do give salukis away because they get them without knowing much about them. Salukis are very headstrong and independent dogs, if they see there quarry they will go for it and will not come back until its ready, no matter how much you shout for the dog to come back it wont until it is ready. They have very good homing skills though so do return eventually. Obbviously this annoyes some owners and they get rid. Less and less salukis are bred these days because of the ban that is why the prices are so high. I still believe my prices to be quite low compared to a lot of other breeders. I love salukis and only sell to people i think will look after them and understand them. Quote Link to post
