alan81 110
first thing is gameness then brains and then feet. either one on its own will only go so far and a dog with just one wont go to far. Quote Link to post
paulus 26
heart and wind, the. best feet in the world are no use if the dog don't have the minerals to use them. Quote Link to post
nothernlite 18,089
Not one aattribute defines a good runner... It's a combination or a magical mix of not just physical but mental minerals... I like a good strike on a dog agree with the above like a good nose on a dog and strike Quote Link to post

Bosun11 537
The best dog I've ever seen on foxes, with the biggest tally I know of, had the worst feet i've ever seen on any dog. By the time it retired it didn't have a toe left the wasn't smashed with most of 'em flapping round when it ran. Quote Link to post

rob284 1,682
No point having good feet if it cant use em. Attributes are useless without others. A dog that can turn and keep close. Quote Link to post

Gaz_1989 9,539
I am a fan of good feet. Mainly since my bitch broke hers last year and I spoke to a few people about feet. I saw a litter of deerhound x on here last year and they had feet like that of a cat. They looked superb and from then on I decided I wouldn't have a dog with anything other than fantastic feet again. If I got offered a pup from a litter of proven workers with all the ingredients of a good dog but one of the parents had bad feet then I wouldn't want one. However with something like stamina, gears, brains etc. If this was missing from one of the parents then I would take the gamble. The sire to my new pup had no gears. He was flat out. Zero to top speed in a few seconds and nothing inbetween. I can see both sides of the argument though. Good feet won't help a dog with no gears. He's dead now. Feet, gears, stamina - all important to me. Prey drive goes without saying I saw a dog work a few months ago which had it all. Prey drive, gears, stamina, feet, coat, brains, jumped, retrieved, good recall. It just had something missing. I don't know what it was. But it was missing. The X factor? That "WANT" to get the job done? Interesting topic. Quote Link to post
