Recommended Posts

Hypo water mix in the evening before they go out, in the winter I use a sqeugee to make sure the floors are dry properly tiles seem to take ages to dry in the winter. Kennels got wood floor topped with rubber and a thermo controlled heat lamp in each.

Anyone ever thought of what all of those strong disinfectants are doing to thier dogs sence of smell? or how much is being absorbed through the dogs pads?

Just a thought

:yes: I have said this to a couple of mates just recently, every time you go round their kennels all you can smell is disinfectant. Im not saying its bad to keep your runs clean and tidy, but I think you can go overboard on the super strength chemicals, and it can have an adverse effect on the dogs. Dogs will lick their feet and any other part of their body that comes in contact with the disinfectants, via the runs, so bear that in mind the next time you reach for the chemicals, if its not something youd like on your own bare feet or tongue then dont put it in the dogs run. I use cheap toilet cleaner, 20 - 30p supermarket own brand, a quick scrub with that and then rinse down with warm water. People laugh but I rarely have any health issues with any of my dogs, so it cant be all bad.

My Dogs go out at six every morning and a five at night and in between most days they normally always do their business then wash out with a power hose, their beds are wooden boxed with a high surround to stop draughts, never use bedding. Will Jeyes out once a week,my last dog died at fourteen, have a terrier who is thirteen.None of my dogs have never suffered from fleas, tret the box once a month with flea spray.

Dogs empty themselves out 1st thing in the Morning and Last thing at Night whilst on there walks so it is VERY RARE they do anything in there Runs, they soon get into a routine when taken out at regular times.

Once a Week Bleach Run and Swill off with Hot Water then Mop the Surface as Dry as i can, within 10 minutes you can see it starting to dry off, Mopping the Surface cuts the drying time down by a mile.

Kennel, Change Bedding Once a Week, i use that shreaded J Cloth, it is about £7 for a Big Bale, it is a bit messy but it keeps the Dogs Warm and Dry which is the Main thing.
