Ferret Too Hot?

Recommended Posts

From what i know ferrets don't pant. But the kit is always sticking her tongue out the holes in the ferret box and breathing rapidly.... sounds like shes sniffing rapidly. Wasn't too hot today either and my other jill doesn't seem to be overheating. I switch them into the well ventilated cat carrier when i see her doing it but i wonder if shes just messing around.... trying to taste the air outside or something?

You want to be looking at how many holes you have in your carrying box if in doubt add a few more ferrets can tolerate the cold but heat can kill them .

Saying that one of my young ferrets gets travel sickness maybe shes just no travling so well

Ferrets do pant. One of my hobs does it when its only a little warm and when its hot, he's worse than a dog for panting. Doesn't sound like your kit was panting though mate. by boxes all have good ventilation but don't think a box would get that hot.

If it helps some of my hobs can cope well with heat and are active and others just slump about out of breath. maybe depends on individual ferret. but none have had any problems with boxes. with yours it may be a mixture of boredom or feeling unsettled while travelling in the box. having said that, to keep them occupied whilst in the box I stick some rubber balls in there they love them lol

That box looks normal size not small mine are the same size pretty much. although I've made a few with my own design so use those too :tongue2:

On my box ive four holes that size on the front under them i put more holes in a diamond shape with a quarter inch drill them i have inch holes at each end of the box under the carrying strap and i get four jills in my box no problems
