Memorible Dig For The Weirdest Reasons

Recommended Posts

since the place has less life than a grave yard ill write about a dig that sticks in my mind. it was a November morning around 01/02 and I was out shooting with my mate C , we got up and packed the car with all the gear and off we went for a bit of rough shooting, we started above the forest hoping to have a bit of crack at anything that left the fur trees. at the end of the forest I noticed a trail of pigeon feathers going in th direction of a 2 holer I knew off, I decided to follow the feathers and right enough it led straight to the holes, as I had no dog with me I rang my mate B and said mon up mate dead cert here and explained what I done, 20 mins later theres my 2 mates B and G coming up the field with the wee dog and spade and I thought here we go happy days. they arrived at the holes and the dog said no, im like feck me I would have bet on that holding then I said fancy checking the other holes in the glen? they said yea np. we arrived at the holes they did not look promising as you all know, off went the dog checking each hole then slips down the 4th and 2 mins later he was on, we let him settle and got the old knocker box out and it read 1ft then the dog started mixing with the quarry so we knew it was there we were digging. B started digging and 1 push with the spade and he was through so we cleared out and all of a sudden this tail pokes out with about 10 white hairs on it, we were all stood there looking at eachother confused at what this thing was that we dug to anyway this thing starts backing out being pushed by the terrier and it was pure bald then the head comes out and the only hair on it was its ears. I was looking at the other 3 and we were all wondering wtf is going on next thing the fcuker took off like a bat out off hell up through the cover then it clicked it was a fox. I fired and missed the thing got away no worse from the ordeal. the others were stood looking at me like how did you miss that even the we dog looked pissed off. that was the mangiest fox ive ever come across, it looked like a chupicabra. how this thing was still alive with no fur I don't know, and to this day its the weirdest dig ive ever been on.

lololol I bet he was raging. my mate had to dip his dog after that one we dug, it would have put in the mind of one of those Chinese crested dogs, to be honest we thought it was someones dog we had dug too, I rekon it didn't last much longer ive never ever seen one infected so bad than that one

i was one time out checking earths for a keeper when i came across a little spot that looked active ? i put a old bitch in i had that i could rely on 100%, she started singing and then showed and came out ? i thought f**k me she thrown towel in at a age of 8yr old, so i decided to try a red dog i had that was capable of finishing a fox only for him to start singing and then he showed, well my face dropped to floor thinking wtf ive had 2 jack on same day, ha, well i got abit pissed of and shouted at red dog to get the f**k back in and finish the job :icon_redface: after about 5mins it went quiet, we had a mark at only about 0.6 so we opened it up and yes it was a shell duck :icon_redface: sadly the dog had killed the duck, the terriers that day must of thought that they might of got an hiding as i keep poultry myself and i brake my dogs to all live stock :D the joys of terrier work,

just goes to show you broke them well to stock, good job, never dug to shell ducks the oddest is cats and they can make a mess of a dog when theyre in the stop. we question were you near the shore or were these ducks far inland when you dug to them?

Dug to a live lamb one time a good way into the earth lifted it and it ran off across the field. Mad part was the dog was not trustworthy with stock above ground but bayed steady and showed no interest when it was lifted..

me and the mate went for a hunt one morning up early and away to be back to watch the football anyway we took a working dog and a young dog that we wanted to get another dig over before we finished for the season, so we were at the first stop dropped the young dog and he started to sound right away, he moved about a right bit until he settled it but as the dog was doing the laps the rain came on and the temp dropped i was in a pair of trackie bottoms an a hoodie lol the mate was as bad we were soaked but we got the dog out with game and it was a very long walk back to the car, we were that badly soaked we drove home in are boxers and the fooking heaters didn't work right in the car :D it also turned out to be one of the chillest days in ireland in years
