I'm not saying that the pricing of pups is ok.   But folk moan about spending 200 quid on a pup. . . . yet spend that on a fecking x-box. . . . or a couple of nights out.

and the miles / hours put in to get the dam and sire to a grade worth breeding from, i've always said that a good bred lurcher pup from good working tried and tested stock should be 200+ and the tough

Some time ago there was a thread about culling litters and most folks was up in arms infact I got some shit and a couple of pm's threatening me though the big men never did show so I'll say it again l

Yer, I opened my mouth before engaging my brain. I'm in total agreement. I'm just fecking knackered. . . . first day on wed

Lol it was mine yesterday, this keepering lark bloody nightmare mate lol

if you breed a litter to keep one or two back then sell the rest to cover what you shelled out, that's a working mans price ?. not breed to mutts off average ability then sell the whole litter that's when the game gets messed up but that's my opinion

not all keen young uns have conections with decent lads.some have to start from scratch. they have to get a pup from someone. i know what folk are saying but sometimes its worth the gamble. the quote (and some fell on stoney ground) springs to mind.next time you have to cull. due to a bigger than expected litter hold an extra pup back and give a keen young lad a chance. not all will pay off but if one or two lads do then it has to be worth it. as an answer to the original question. around 100/150 is a reasonable price to me  good hunting this winter

And there in lies the problem...I cant be the only one on here who doesn't have mates into lurchers...(sadly Im no longer a young lad :cray: )I have looked at several litters in the last couple of years and none were what was advertised, and Im still looking....maybe next time someones about to cull a pup think on...it could be someones pride and joy, just because some of us aren't connected it doesn't make us all messers or potential peddlers etc  Its a vicious circle, lads culling good pups as they don't want their lines "farmed out to strangers" are helping to keep the demand up for the peddlers who really don't give a shit what happens after they,ve taken someones money and are only concerned in off loading the bitch/breeding her again....chicken and the egg scenario :censored:

It always amazes me that folk will pay £200 + for boots/wellies/waterproofs but will baulk and piss and moan at the thought of paying similar for a dog... :hmm:

So, what price a pair of wellies for a working man..... :hmm::hmm::hmm:

I know of 2 or 3 litters in the past 12 months that were initially priced way over what they were worth...one or two sold...the rest were reduced in price and the remainder stuck around for weeks before being given away...in one instance, where there had been 13 in the litter, to a rescue home.... :icon_redface::icon_redface::icon_redface: Totally disgraceful.....and borne out of greed.... :censored:

do you's not think that well bred pups from good working well proven stock should be priced higher than the avrage lurcher / terrier / gundog as theres been more put into them than jo blogs around the corner knocking out a litter for their next venture fund (as 1 or 2 put it).

I don't have a problem with folk charging decent money for good quality well reared and well bred pups....my gripe is with the "oh shit my more then average run of the mill bitch is in season....£££££££....let's get her lined brigade....." and then wanting £300 a pop.....it's a joke....

And take it from me there's been loads around here in the past wee while....fkn depressing....

The cost of raising a litter well should be reflected in the asking price

If the pups are shit then people shouldn't / wont buy them

I have worked out what a litter of 6 pups has cost to get to 8 weeks old

8lb of meat a week for 4 weeks £24

panacur £16

Tail docking £120

1st jabs £90

other feed £25

so £275 or £45 a pup without the double rations for the bitch and the electric bill for the kennel heating

It's not a lot of money so where does the "working mans price" of £150 to £250 come from

It's a sad thruth that most pups are bred for a cash return and not for the next generation of stock or to improve a line

The vet here said tail docking would be £100 per pup :icon_eek: wtf is that all about? £85 for the certificate and £15 for the actual procedure, joke!!

I still don't get why anyone would sell working pups for profit.

http://m.preloved.co.uk/m/showadvert/109212434/pug-puppy.html

I reckon if I bought 5 bitches and a dog and bred the bitches once a year I wouldn't even need to work.

I suppose the answer is 'Because they can'.

Silly f**kers keeping them going....

Get a few 'trials' etc under your belt, and you could well be right. ;)
