What Is The Working Mans Price??

Recommended Posts

Would rather give the dog away for free as its going to someone I know and trust. If not an option I'd rather cull than worry about the life the dog may have. Two the best workers I had didnt cost a penny. One that was paid for turned out to have a dam who had shown herself to not be worthy of breeding. Didnt matter as the dog from her worked well. The dog was only for working had no interest in breeding. Funny though one I paid for turned out like that and the free dogs were far better in every way. Think it shows the type of owners.

I'm not saying that the pricing of pups is ok.   But folk moan about spending 200 quid on a pup. . . . yet spend that on a fecking x-box. . . . or a couple of nights out.

and the miles / hours put in to get the dam and sire to a grade worth breeding from, i've always said that a good bred lurcher pup from good working tried and tested stock should be 200+ and the tough

Some time ago there was a thread about culling litters and most folks was up in arms infact I got some shit and a couple of pm's threatening me though the big men never did show so I'll say it again l

The point I was trying to make was how can a pup from someone along the street be worth nigh on the same as a 'fancy' one?

It makes little difference to me if it is a £50 pup, or a £500 one.....but there will be reasoning behind these costs.

I was goping to start a post 'Why Bother with Pedigree?'.....But that is a whole different 'discussion'...

Are you after Baws "THL shit stirring" title

Well...............

Someone already mentioned the word 'prestige'...........

Pedigree doesn't mean it won't have any problems,- Health wise or Training wise.

As has been stated already also, a LOT of how it turns out is down to the owner / trainer.

Say Joe Average like me buys an all singing, all dancing pedigree beast.......then what..??? Get a mate for it and skin the average working man ? Who, like you or I, does what he can with it, and enjoys it while he has it.

Let's be honest here, who REALLY benefits from this great 'Pedigree'?

Work with a guy who bought himself a pedigreed to the hilt Lab..........next thing we hear, he's had it 'doctored'!....Why?

I can understand (To a point) where all the Breeding / Lines can matter to the elite few..... but being honest about it....Does it matter to the average manny like myself (or most others being honest about it all)

:D

If your making a profit out of a litter of pups your a cnut...... If you can't afford to breed a litter, then don't... guys with there dogs best interest at heart won't make a profit, they be too busy finding GOOD homes..

How can you guarrentee good homes 100% ?

Especially if your selling for 50 quid every wannabe going will be after them to pass on after a month or two.

Cull your litter to a manageable size an place pups within your circle of mates. If your dog's are good enough to breed then that shouldn't be a problem should it? If you can't place pups in homes of folk you trust then cull them, I'd be up most nights if I'd passed dogs onto folk I didn't know, wether they paid top whack or not. Not worth the stress cull a d sleep like a baby lol

What a load of tosh.

I bred my bitch ( 8 years old, 1st litter), I had 4 guaranteed homes plus mine before the mating. She had nine, I have one left and 3 very happy owners who if left to your way would not have had the chance of a pretty well bred pup.

Now prices of pups is a breeders prerogative. I asked 200 for mine so that makes 800 so far. They have cost me 490 for C section, around 800 in raw meat etc, 120 for jags and say 30 for worming and 50 on the heat lamp.

I also had a litter of terriers that was a mistake mating, they went to pet homes for the price of jags and worming. One of them I had to keep till it was 12 weeks for the lady, who I found out was ill. I gave her the money back for the pup and asked her to give it to her cancer charity.

Think on before you slag of people with pups people.

Sorry, been a long day.

Jesus f**k - £800 in raw meat to rear a litter of lurcher pups....how much you paying for your meat....that kinda money would buy me 2,666lbs of meat @30p per lb...and how much you feeding them.... :icon_eek::icon_eek::icon_eek:

I see above you have written "raw meat etc"....mate seriously that can't be right can it....£800 to rear a littler of lurcher pups....even with meat, and the etc being a complete and whatever else that's a serious amount of money to rear a litter of pups...that just ain't making any sort of sense to me.... :hmm::hmm::hmm:

I always wonder that any way. . . .

But i've seen both shit and great dogs that have been both free / cheap and cost £500 . . . . it's a little deeper than that I think.

But youre right that some folk are just money grabbers!

Jai - you never heard that theory before.... :hmm: It comes from the same school of thought that promotes tying a dead cat to your dog's neck til it stinks in a bid to stop it killing moggies.....:yes::yes:

I think it depends on the person I would say the cost of bringing pups up is not cheap I know this from the litters of greyhounds we used too keep when I was younger but and the biggest things that affect prices is demand and quality why gun dogs have being put on a high price market is due too demand simple as that I must know of 30 springers/cockers and labs within 30 miles from my house the avg price round these parts being 300/500 the amount of lurchers I know within 30 miles 5 demand makes prices even jack russels are going for about 300 these days I think about 200/300 is what I would call a working mans price
