stubby 175
went out couple weeks back for a half day, got 2, lost 5 from not netting up enough, not bad for 1st attempt though, went out again today(sunday) the area we ferret is the boundary line between 2 farms, have permission from one, 2 fences, one either side of a ditch thats heavy in undergrowth and big stinging neetles, first warren empty, 2nd warren empty, then my jill deciedes to do a runner into the nettle patch, we searched for a good have hour, thinking i had lost her and a mk1 collar, then realised i could use the locator above ground too, tracked her about 100yds up the ditch but no way of getting to her, bloody chainlink, then lost her again as she went underground, eventually got her back when i had scrambled through nettles and stung myself to bits, just called her name and she just trotted over, prob as glad to see me as i was to see her, must have got something down a hole as she had claret up her face and not hers, so need to get a clearer ferreting patch the pic is from 1st outing Quote Link to post

danielt 1
I went out for an hour today after work. Had two young jills their first time out, so i let them have a little run round on the land so they could have a good sniff round then i put one down a one holer just for starters. After 5 mins of the jill coming in and out i let the other have a go. No one at home, i didnt think there was anyway Walking back to the car i knew of another 2 holer in a banking, wasnt too sure if it was occupied, but didnt mind too much. Anyway i netted up the two holes and got the white one out as she's bit easier to spot in the hedgeline compared to my poley. After a minute or two dashing from one side of the hedge to the other she came out so i put her back in to make sure, and nothing no one at home. Wasnt too bothered as it was a good training exercise and it was good to see what they are like when out in the open. Too muchfoliage about at the moment, i know where the warrens are, but its gonna be a potch to cut back. Quote Link to post

R_Oldroyd 17
I have been out it was a complete disaster, i caught 12 rabbits some young some old and some with mynxi. Anyway was packing up to come home when 4x4 crossed over the field and the guy had a bit of a chat about fields sports and all that lot. Unfortunately i and not picked up one of my 50yd longnets at the time of the conversation. Once he had departed i went back to collecting the nets. My dog was going crazy up over the 50 yarder so i went to investigate. A 13th rabbit had been caught with no ferrets down. Bloody thing had only gone and chewed five holes in my net. Guttered. Fortunely it was only 10 yards from one end so not that bad to repair. I think that the moral of this story is to keep your eyes on what is going on when you are out and to keep checking your nets especially when it is hard to see with the vegitation so think. Best of luck with the season and hopefully there will be some good stories to tell. regards Roger... Quote Link to post
