Me And Mhopton At The Rabbits Again

Recommended Posts

Well me and my mate and rabbiting partner mark (mhopton) went out with the ferrets on Sunday armed with marks jill and his hob kit and I took the warrior and her daughter from last year, we took the purse nets and I took 75 yards of trammel net, no dogs allowed on this permission unfortunately ?

When we got to the farm we bumped into the farm hand so we had ten mins crack, he told us there was plenty of rabbits over near his place but it was under the (old sheep pens) which were big concrete slabs, he said you might be able to ferret it so we said we would take a look

Any way we went to check it out and it was clear there was rabbits at home, we netted up and I put the trammel on the field side as I new that's which way they would bolt, so on with the collars and in went the warrior, within 2 mins the rumbling started and 1 hit the net, this carried on over the next 15 mins and she bolted another 5 in quick succession so that was 6 on the board and there was still the other side of the burrow to do so mark dropped his Jill in and bolted another 2 pretty quickly, he then dropped his young hob in once the Jill had surfaced

We could hear a rabbit moving but as it was a spread out burrow it was had for him to get onto the rabbit so after about ten mins mark lifted the job out and I give the warrior another run through and she bolted the last rabbit so that was 9 in the bag and no lay ups or digs ( thank f#%ck,

Any way we picked up the nets and headed along the way to a spinney along the fence line, I had done 2 burrows in here last week and bolted 13 so we started where I left off and netted up which took a while then I with the ferrets, it was slow at first but we soon started getting bolters at a steady pace I must say these burrows are old and have a lot of holes and tunnels so the ferrets done well to find and bolt these rabbits, any way we moved up with the ferrets and accounted for a few more there was 1 escapee or so it thaught until it hit the trammel at full speed?

The last burrow we done held a couple of half grown rabbits and to my surprise severel 6 week old youngsters which were giving the ferrets the run around, or I nearly forgot one of the rabbits that hit the net decided it was going to latch on to the end of my finger which I must admit hurt like hell

Any way sorry if the write up isn't the best but there it is we had a great days ferreting and a good laugh to boot and ended the day with 30 rabbits with 1 missed and one shallow dig to a rabbit my ferret suffocated like a lion

The ferrets worked very well as did mark (not getting any twigs up his nose lol)

Here's a few pics 1 of them is a spot the ferreter pic
