walshie 2,804
I'd bet almost everyone on here started with a .22 rimfire as their first powder burner. Don't try to run before you can walk. Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Seems like it would be alot easier to get an fac gun if I had a few acres to run around on rather than wanting to get involved in a sport discipline. BUT you will NOT get a .50Cal granted for that in the UK. Im getting the sense that I wont be able to just jump straight to very long range target sports? Why not? So joining the local 25m range and getting a .22lr is the best way to start? It is a good way for many to start, but it isn't the only way! If you want something bad enough you can do a lot to make it happen...... but you will need deep pockets for the rifle, glass and ammo! http://www.fcsa.co.uk/ Check it out, and read the membership section........ Ratsmasher 36
Just get up to your nearest fac rated target club and say what you just said to us and they will give you a load of help and advice. It's not what you know it's who you know. Quote Link to post
dangerousdan 16
Just read the blurb on the fifty cal shooters association website. At £2.50 to £5 a round I think that might be a bit out of my affordability league (by quite a way). Maybe back to 100m ranges then! Is there an easy way of finding local ranges? I'm in Dudley, West midlands. The club I was thinking about trying was Dudley Rifle Club but with only a 25m indoor range and I'd have liked to find somewhere with maybe a 100m outdoor range. charlie caller 3,654
I have no idea about your local club, but if they allow .22rf start with that, your fac will allow you to shoot on approved ranges, so you will be able to travel to other clubs with a longer range, once you have your ticket, you will then be able to progress to new levels as and when you wish, and can afford, as the others have said, don't try and run before you can walk, you will learn a lot from a .22 and get all the help you need from club members I am sure. dangerousdan 16
Thanks. Is it normal that these clubs only open once a week for a certain discipline? From looking at dudley rifle club website it seems to only do .22 rimfire on a wednesday and doesnt mention anything about weekends. Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
The best thing to do is ring and ask them pal, I don't really have much need or interest in target shooting/clubs as all my shooting is game/vermin so apart from the odd zero session (which I can do on any of my permissions) I rarely shoot paper, but I would have thought if they only have a 25 yard range they are not going to be shooting much else? Maybe black powder, or gallery carbines, best to ring them mate. Quote Link to post
