harrycatcat 31
I failed with the advice on stoning damsons but can anyone give me advice on the best way to store apples. I have come across an apple tree with eaters on and also one with cookers on but I need to know how to store them and how long you think they will last. All advice welcome. trappa 518
What i do with cookers is skin em, core em , then slice them into a pan. Add a splash of water and slowly simmer them till they are soft. Then leave to cool, bag them in pie size portions and freeze them- last all year this way.
harrycatcat 31
Thanks for that it does make sense. I have heard that if I wrap the eating apples up in newspaper they should last but I once tried it with pears and they all went rotten.

mole trapper 1,693
We used to go up to Hereford once a year to buy apples for using throughout the winter, they were always individualy wrapped after being checked for any bruising in crepe paper then stored on polystyrene trays in a cool dark vermin free place, used to be fine till spring. Yokel Matt 918
We had an old stone potting shed with a load of wooden slatted racks in it. Apples were placed close together but NOT TOUCHING and lasted a long time (at least a few months). You'd get a few that would go bad but i was quite suprised how most of them stayed in very good condition. Having said that those this was when we actually had cold and frosty winters unlike the last few years where its just been wet and mild
