Huan72 687
I watched a program about it, it was invented in America to keep big head of cattle. It put an end to the massive old west cattle drives but over here its just a near on invisible line of skin tearing agony. Been caught in it myself and its not nice, I cant stand it. To anyone thinking about putting it up................... Quote Link to post

colliexgreyhound 119
Hate the stuff with a passion. I was out doing cover for fox with a few lads about 4 year ago and hounds were on straight away in the first bit we did. Out came foxy like a greyhound out of a trap and I was holding my mates first x bull and slipped him on the fox. the dog and fox went into the ditch and out across the next field. There was a new fence put up on the far side of the ditch were the dog went through 5 strands of the barbed stuff and tight as f**k it was. the dog came back in some state his whole Back was like a zip up fleece. Chid 6,508
It's used because cattle will push through anything else given the chance I've had a couple of hang ups on it myself and my dog done one back leg then when that healed he done the other soon after ffs also had the dog miss judge his jump and end up with a front leg inbetween the 2 strands hanging there till I got to him ... alan81 110
that's a bad cut mate. I hate barbed wire when im out with the dogs but it is the only wire that will keep cattle from breaking out. I hate it but I still use it myself im fcuked if im chasing cattle around the countryside. Quote Link to post
artful212 394
lucky it not deeper that cut banter i had a lurcher was a lazy jumper until he got caught by side of his dcik on barbed wire he squeelled like fuk piss ing everywhere until i unhooked him only had a we cut thankfully i felt sorry for him but was his own fault fence was only 2 ft high needless to say he cleared every fence after like a stag lol 2 Quote Link to post
bryson 562
every field round my way is double strand the dogs had a few skin tears but nothing serious as yet touch wood the last time was only last month he tryed to kick off the top of the fence and his back right leg went through then the 2 strands of wire twisted round so the poor fecker was left hanging and it was a right feck on to get him back off best of it is there is very little cattle round here so i cant see the need to be using it Quote Link to post
sandymere 8,263
The only thing I don’t miss about running on decent land is the wire, fecking evil stuff. These days I wonder around little fields with thick banked hedges and rarely get a problem. But back when I ran up country the times I’ve had to un hook a dog or had come back with a red leg, make ya sick to remember some of them. Still heal well and pretty quick if there skin tears. whippet 99 2,613
well as much as I don't like it ......we cant exspect it too be banned for the sake of running dogs......unfortunately it serves a purpose for farmers and cattle......just got too do our best too avoid what we can.......its a fecjking pain when it does happen,.......a dog out of action and usually a few quid out the pocket....... was there any stitches in the muscle or was it the skin what was just stitched and they left the inch gash in the muscle to heal on its own.....?
