Polkey 70
Im planing on getting a pup for bushing and you know how it is when you get into it you end up obsessed, spending hours on line looking at pups. Im probs going to end up with some terrier mix or cross and Im sure some thing will jump out eventually at the right time like they do. But Im gob smacked at the dumb names and dumb prices you see http://www.preloved.co.uk/adverts/show/108292049/bedale-patterdale-x-beagle-puppys.html. My mum just got a working cocker and had met a woman out walking who paid £900 for a cocker poo. Quote Link to post

bwfc 164
Yep dumb names and dumb prices, but they are only doing what dog men have been doing for years.Cross breeding to get the best characteristics of both dogs,to do certain jobs. Some are used as alert dogs, and some are bred to shed little hair etc. Some of the crosses are fantastic little dogs like Jackapoos, but all of them are overpriced and shouldnt sell for more than a couple of hundred quid tops. Sorry pal, have to disagree, the cute name and fact that its a current trend and people have realized they can cash in are the main reason its happening. I know a fair few people buying into it. Its always the wife wanting it and not one ever mentions 'bred for character' or 'hypo-allergenic', etc. I don't think you can compare dog men breeding for working ability to people breeding for profit on the basis of a cute name and high price tag. I think your right that a couple hundred quid should be the max. At the end off the day Im sure they are all happy with there dogs and no ones getting hurt but it is a bit mental Quote Link to post
clueless 11
At the emd of the day a cross is a cross I got my border and my brother said " you only got him cheap coz he's not kc registered" like it was a bad thing. This coming from a bloke who has never owned a dog. People do get sucked in. Quote Link to post
bobcullen79 1,495
Hopefully the people doing the breeding solely for cash and the pet market can leave the genuine working terriers alone now, seeing as these glorified mongrels are fetching so much Quote Link to post
daniel123 21
I was just thinking the same bob just mongrels at ridiculous prices atb Dan Quote Link to post
brucemyster 75
A few years back you'd be all but giving away anything that was a Heinz, now their calling them designer dogs and charging a fortune!! same with kittens and rabbits seems you need a small mortgage now days. I tried to get a tenner for my ferret kits to recoup the cost of feeding the little stinkers and you could of heard a pin drop, offered them for free and couldn't keep up with people calling up for them. I suppose if people are willing to pay silly money there will always be people charging silly money!! Quote Link to post
