Help With Fac Application

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I'm applying for my FAC at the minute and I'm asking for .243, .17 hmr and sec1 shotgun.

However I could also do with a dedicated foxing calibre but can't decide between .223 or .22-250 so would anyone in the Penrith area be willing to let me try either of the above calibres to try and make my mind up?

Cheers

Also a friend in the same situation with less shooting experience has just been granted coterminous SGC and FAC with .22, section 1 shotgun and .243 but was told he could have had anything up to .300 win mag as he has red deer on one of his permissions.

Longer range foxing calibres don't come better than a .243, what is this dedicated nonsense, are you suggesting you want to buy a 223 or 22-250 SOLELY for foxes.

The 243 will do it all, better than either of these, and if you are looking at close foxes then a rimfire or shotgun will suffice.

so ya applying for ya FAC ..... .243 .17hmr section one shotgun and maybe a .223 or .22.250 ......you wanting all of them yet have never had an FAC before ? good luck ....and i aint being sarcastic .....

You can apply for what you like though and as long as you can demonstrate good reason for each calibre and there's room in the cabinet then where's the issue?

I've just got my first FAC with 2 x .22, a .223 and .243 for target, vermin and deer. The only condition is around completing my DSC1 before unaccompanied deer shooting with the .243

All seemed pretty straightforward and the only way you'll definitely not be approved is to not even ask for it.

Deker hit the nail on the head. .243 ammo costs very little different to .223 (around 10p per round different), and .243 is a better long range foxing round. So absolutely no reason to apply for .223. Why not just save yourself the cost of the .223 rifle and instead spend the money on something else? .17HMr, .243 and the shotgun will cover virtually all situations.

Spot on you will not find a better foxing calibre than your .243 pal, it will, as has been said do it all, .22-250 is a fantastic calibre, but bif you get .243 you dont need it, use 80gn bullets and you can smack foxes and drop deer with the same rounds, as I do, 80gn Sierra blitz under 45grns of h414, col 2.635" turns foxes inside out, and drops deer on the spot without too much meat damage, and in my rifle will shoot a near one hole group
