Long-Term Jobless To Do Unpaid Work Or Lose Benefits

Recommended Posts

When the poll tax came in I was working part time for B&Q on a summer contract and living at home.........................I was young :D I was getting the same money as I would have got on the doll but wanted to be working, all fine so far......................then the government decided to take all the money that I had earnt over the summer. I went down the council to talk to someone as I was sure this was a mistake, but no, this was for real..............I still remember standing in the council offices dumbstruck and genuinely upset, I really felt like crying, I learnt that day that the system is not fair and I don't think it ever will be. We need to have a system that helps our young people get into work and makes them a priority in any employment situation. I think the best person should get the job but in times of the mass unemployment of UK workers, UK workers should get priority. How is money being put back into the system when foreign nationals are sending all their earnings home?

Yeh at first glance ,, it looks like a good idea,,, but would it take away a real job of somone else?...... Or is it like getting comunity service for a crime,,,, in wich case it's kind of wrong again

not all do.but its good to see the tory propaganda machine is in overdrive here, and blaming all the countries woes on the poor. sad really. we seem to have compassion for every starving coon in some o

You try finding a job as it stands today! I'm looking local and UK wide and still nothing, I'm a hard working lad, decent education, well mannered etc and learn quickly with plenty to give a company a

Spoke to quite a few tradesmen recently about Polish/Eastern Europeans taking the jobs round here, apparently they're being found out big style.. A lot of the first ones over here came to work and brought a good ethic with them but a lot of the later ones got jobs solely on the back of the impressions laid down by the early ones and turned out to be shite.. Local buildng firms were taking them on because of the myth that 'he must be a good worker, he's Polish', but they're getting bumped off the jobs left right and centre here now..

I've heard the same Mal,

I can only speak as I find, the lads I worked alongside in Bracknell 3 or 4 years back worked their bollocks off, I wouldn't say they were skilled as such but for the job they had to do they worked hard all day every day, they were employed by a big cold store company and put the composite panels on infront of us, we were putting the single ply on a big waitrose roof,

Another was a ground worker for a local company, he told me he'd worked every day for 8 months solid, all the money was going to go back to Poland so he could buy a house mortgage free.... is that right or wrong :hmm: didn't we do the same in the 80's early 90's in Germany, hoardes of British builders bringing their money home to better their lives :hmm:

Maybe it's time for British lads to stop moaning and get out and do some graft, again not aimed at anyone but f**k me where ever I go I hear people moaning about Eastern European Labour, it's never stopped me working..... My old man started the other night about it, and he's straight from an Irish Immigrant who came here for work

Who are the professional shirkers then? :hmm:

They know who the are, they're conscience tells them so

Said by a man who's never been in that position then, righto ;)

That's right, never been in that position, always worked, some jobs pay well, some jobs don't, but if your not out there doing the shite jobs, you wont come into contact with the good ones ;)

if the eastern europeans can come to a foreign country and find work what does that say for the locals who are unemployed ?

To much paid out in benefits ?

easier to claim rent rather than work for it ?

X number of pounds claimed in benefits , is it worth while going to work to earn the difference ?

without knocking all who claim for various reasons .......

we have all heard people saying foreign fcukers coming here stealing our jobs ??????? ..... wake the fcuk up those jobs were there to start with , but some are just to fcuking idle to look for em FACT , or some folk just think they to good to do work they deem beneath them ...........

just my opinion .........like i said a lot of the claims are genuine .............but how many ain't ..........IDLE SCROUNGING CNUTS ....rant over ;)

yea but your forgetting one thing mate. employers would rather hire the poles and romanians.rather that brits.they like you have this thing that british folk are a shower lazy b*****ds.also they know they can f**k them about and they will accept it,where as brits will want tea breaks and overtime etc. im, pretty sure you wouldnt work for hours on end without day off or breaks, and you would want a decent wage.

Unbelievable ain't it lol

Open the floodgates to the hordes from the east on less money so put people on the dole then when the rich want to pay even less turn everyone against each other to het them people on the dole to work for even less than the migrant lol unbelievable

People say about the poles etc hard working etc but who wad doing these jobs before ? Hhmm

If say I could go to America and earn ( at a guess) 20/25 quid an hour sharing a house with 5/6 other people in same boat all paying next to nothing to live on and no family to spend time with I could work 96 hours a week easy.

Another thing I have had 3 1/2 days work since fishing comp and I think I'm a pretty good grafter can work a shovel and barrow all day pretty skilled in all things building and landscaping and in 4 months working on mowers ride on mowers etc was doing them myself and even telling the boss how he could fix a problem but work just dried up bit in them few days I was working I was working with a Hungarian guy and when the person who we was doing the job for was there he worked as hard as Mr soon as he left he dis fuckall until he head the van lol I would never ever employ a foreigner over a Britain but some so called mates would leave you sitting at home with fiuckall waiting for them why helping the immigrant but think are in motion and soon enough it will be different

As I said I would not employ the Eastern Europeans, it just doesn't sit right with me, but the problem is most firms do and it's driving prices down for everyone..... Time served still keeps the work coming through the door, but I don't know if that will last forever...

Hopefully you get sorted a bit soon mate,

An eastern European bricky will come to work at 7 and work til 5 without a break.

An English bricky will come to work at 9 (should be 8:30.) Go for a shit and read the paper for 30 minutes. Knock off at 12 for an hour and a half, for lunch, and then knock off early (4:45.)

Pure capitalism... follow the money.

I know their work is shit but you'll get your £50, a day, out of them... that's what keeps the world turning.

I think it is right that people claiming benefit should have to do work. I see no problem with a person reciving £56 per week doing 9hrs work for their local community in accordance with NMW.

As many people have said, there is work out there, but you have to be prepared to move if required and do jobs that you normally wouldn't entertain.

I was a middle manager for some years but that career ended, so I took what ever job was going. I went from £37k (+bonuses and allowances) per year to £50 a day cash in hand working in a local garden centre/petting zoo. From there I went to a dairy farm, £40 per milking doing 2 killings a day. That led to work on a pig unit as a stockman, working 0600, sometimes 0530 till 1600 (1700 one week in 5).

That gave me the necessary capital to retrain. Turns out I don't use the chainsaw qualification professionally (£1500 worth of training and equipment) but it keeps the wood burner stocked up.

I've moved to the South West, there is plenty of work down here. Rented a room in a house for £360/month plus bills for the first year, now me and the missus have bought our own. There is so much demand for the job I do, I could cut myself in half, work 8 days a week and there would still be work going spare! It's agency work, on a zero hours contract, but not badly paid. The times are anti social and the hours can be long, with occasional nights away from home (sometimes unplanned) but its work and it pays the bills.

I've changed agency 4 times, as I'm always on the lookout for a better deal, be it more hours or better pay. But I'm flexible, professional, punctual and have the right attitude. I keep on good terms with everyone, giving a weeks notice even though I don't have to. This means I have a good reputation, I still get offers of work from the first agency I worked for. Every time my current agency call with work I am available. This leads to more work coming my way, funny how that happens?!

I don't smoke, rarely drink, don't buy designer clothes (or any clothes for that matter, been wearing the same outfit for last 12 months. Have 3 sets so it gets washed regularly), cut my own hair. Me and the missus shop in Lidl and drive diesel cars (well a T reg Vauxhall Astra in my case).

Since moving down here I've spent another £2000 on training courses to increase my employability within my industry. On the last course (£685) there was 12 of us. Me and 1 other lad paid for it ourselves, everyone else was there courtesy of their employer, they all thought I was mad, shelling out that much cash, but the way I see it I am investing in me.

This course will lead to me doubling my current income, eventually. It won't happen overnight, but you gotta climb that greasy pole somehow.

I have other plans for getting even more money, but these take time and effort and have fairly large start up costs. It is a gamble, but you got to be in it to win it.

I hope to begin employing others within 12months, but I will expect the same from my employees as I do from myself.
